Apex hasn't been getting as much attention in the campaign to save these areas, but it's the larger of the two parcels. RDCK's decision to purchase 21.6 hectares of land surrounding Cottonwood Lake is a great first step but there's still much to be done. The Cottonwood Lake area has essentially been subdivided, and the larger portion of the land (67%) remains under threat. This entire corridor is simply too valuable to give up on. The Cottonwood Lake Preservation Society did not use any GoFundMe funds to support this purchase. We plan to use those funds to protect more land with the public's input. Ski season is almost over and as the weather heats up many of us will turn to hiking with our dogs. Students have the opportunity for hands on learning for their future careers in programs like forestry technology, biology and more. "Cottonwood Lake is an ideal field site as the access is easy and safe and it is difficult to find local lakes which freeze over and are deep enough to meet the objectives of a limnology lab.
