We get to see projections of Sherlock’s loved one’s filtered through his perception, we get to witness firsthand what goes on in his head, we are part of his thought process. Isn’t that what people read fanfiction for? You can’t easily see characters thoughts from the screen so you’ll have to write them up yourself. But we don’t have to. We are given everything just like that.
