Also on 7/10 I saw Sara VanDerBeek’s Roman Women at Altman Siegel and it was really exciting to see her print on cloth and for these photographs to have so much adaptability and movement in a way it’s not supposed to be!!!! so exciting!!! i LOVE loVE LOve when people break photographic boundaries! its important that the medium continues to grow in whichever way it can, with technology! what cant we do?!?!
interesting things from the release:
“The selection from this series presented here invites the viewer to contemplate the changing means and meaning of image circulation over time, and the shifting discourse in which those images are embedded”
“ The work also highlights the symbolism that has both encumbered and elevated the female form since its earliest iterations. Women’s bodies have never only been their own. Formed within and of a matrix of cultural meanings that define them as an ideal, a site of ideation, and a mirror for society at large, female figures are innately fragmentary. “
