Tim McIlrath 2012!
So, I am having a tough time deciding who not to vote for in November. Those of you old enough to vote, and that want a sane president, help me in this cause! I WILL be writing in Tim McIlrath on my ballot in November, and (even though we all know it's gonna be a major candidate that wins) this can be a catalyst for change in this country corrupted by career politicians. Our voices have been lost in the clusterfuck that is American politics. We chant for change, yet the biggest change that we have made is to see our economy go from bad to worse, and our presidential candidates make fools out of themselves (cited: Rick Santorum). I personally do not want a wine-and-cheese liberal running the country, nor do I want a man that calls corporations people. They both have fled their beliefs for the sake of money and power, and we the people deserve better. Whoever you choose to write in, be it McIlrath, be it Buffet, be it a town hero, your best friend, your mom, be it anyone who holds true to your ideals, choose the person that YOU wish to vote for, not the person that mainstream politics chose for you to vote for. We can make a change, we can be heard! The lowest ever approval rating in Congress does not need to be repeated, and neither does a less-than 50% for Obama, but we all have to work towards a change it if we want it to happen. Write-ins 2012! Please spread the word, and, for a true change, let's be heard this year!Â
The fruits of my Tumblr hiatus.
If spending your hard earned money on entirely practical things is the sign of adulthood, it's fair to say I've arrived. In the years since college graduation, I've lived in no fewer than 10 residences, including 3 different apartments in 3 different cities all in one year. As such, I tend to 'make-do'. Tend to design closets out of milk crates and shoe boxes, tend to over-stuff shelves and cram every possible nook with a matching cranny. But a grown up house calls for grown up storage.  Six trips to three different Lowe's, countless consultations with the hardware experts at my local Ace, one generously willing father and one tirelessly patient boyfriend later and my clothes finally have a proper home: shoes isolated in cubbies, pants hung neatly on their own wooden hangars and a drawer with one of those special closing mechanisms that you can't slam no matter how hard you try. It’s Holly-proof.
It's hard to put a price tag on the joy you'll find in little elbow grease and your ability to digest an encyclopedia-sized instruction manual printed in four different languages. I for one love constructing things. I love to fit pieces and screw bolts and fit my hands into tiny spaces using comically small allen wrenches. I love marveling at the finished product that grew from a pallet of flat boxes and a bag full of screws just a few hours earlier.
But...this project involved measuring (and therefore involved math) which is my Achilles heel and greatest source of incompetence. My general life motto is that if I can't eyeball it, I won't attempt it. Estimations are the backbone of my success and that philosophy rarely translates well when tape measurers are involved.
But from this vantage, you can't see the pitch in the shelf or the botched screw holes in the wall, so I guess I'll consider that an aproximate success.
