This soundtrack is incredibly full of odd time, like half the ost and I keep forgetting to post things from it! The composer in general seems to love odd time

Another recent find (both composer and soundtrack) that’s full of so much odd time music it feels endless.

5/8 all the way through here, but 3-bar phrased, so slightly more unusual than if it were 4-bar phrasing.

DAY 1291) SanctuaryRPG - Sangus nos Olhos

I recently discovered this composer and his wild set of soundtracks, he’s a HUGE odd time guy it seems and definitely has an abundant supply of rhythmically creative music, ‘actually odd time’ or not. Usually pretty smoothly and subtly, just letting it naturally become a normalized trait of his soundtracks, which is something I definitely appreciate!

This one’s mostly just normal 3+3 6/8 the whole time but there’s definitely some cool things going on worth talking about.

The only actual odd time here is [2 bars of 7/8, 2 bars of 6/8]x2 at 0:12 - 0:24 (2:17 - 2:28) but man that is such a cool feeling to me.

There’s also lots of moments with unpredictable odd bar phrasing I’d say. The part just before :12 is an ‘extra’ 6/8 bar that makes a unexpected 5 bar phrase just before it. The part just before :47 is the same thing and I really love the feeling of it~!

There’s also nice hemiola feeling stuff that gradually starts to build up more prominence throughout the whole 1:09 - 1:53 section before the loop, playing with 3/4 (2+2+2) against 6/8 (3+3). That’s in other places to some extent too but especially once the strings get particularly loud and there’s more going on in a “1-2-3-″ sense rather than a “1--2--″ sense it’s a very noticable pulse shift.
