Well. Wasn’t this a pleasant sight? Some do gooder spending his time at the local orphanage, reading stories to children, and giving them toys and sweets. How precious. Truthfully, the foreign man wasn’t doing anything to irk Seokmin. It was just that the masked mercenary had -- for lack of a better phrase-- major daddy issues.  While he hadn’t been an orphan growing up, he rather would have been. After the passing of his mother, Seokmin was never treated well by his father, who blamed the occurrence on the boy. In the end, Deadpool rationalized that the abuse made him stronger-- but still. Watching the man interact with the kids, seeing them smile-- he was envious. Very envious.

“You know it won’t help them.” The assassin called out, his voice muffled slightly by his mask. “No matter how often you read little cartoons to them or bring them cookies, at the end of the day, they’re still orphans. Little abandoned kids who most likely will never get adopted. Why not teach them something useful? If it was up to me, I’d probably be teaching them how to fire a gun-- Or maybe make fake IDs-- Oh man, I should get a couple of those rugrats and turn them into my own personal army-- What do you think?”

It’s okay to be sad, but don’t let it chance how you see yourself. What they think will never be more important than that, and it only matters if you let it become the truth.

And as someone who has let other’s thoughts and words transform me now, it’s advice to my current self, too.

A memory from your character’s teenage yearsIt’s 1996, she’s 15 years old, on a day trip from Hadano to Tokyo with mom for shopping. Even on days off she doesn’t shed the skin of a career woman, impeccably dressed, and to this day Rinko hasn’t seen her in a pair of trainers. Her hair is short and she’s got all the angles her daughter would inherit as an adult. For now, though, Rinko is just Yuriko, baby faced and half asleep against her shoulder. The sunlight pouring in through windows makes her feel hot and groggy. They’ll get off at Harajuku station and walk arm and arm to their usual destination, Laforet.

It’s a day like any other, something special will happen this time. Yuriko’s got her eyes on something so she doesn’t notice her mom caught in conversation with someone neither of them know. He’ll give her a business card. Afterward Yuriko will find out he was a talent scout who’d noticed her that day, and her mom will tell her a story she’d never heard before – When she was 15, she was scouted at the same place. 

Shortly after this day she’ll start modelling, and this is what will eventually lead her to film.

A memory from your character’s careerShe’s 17 now, waiting to be called in for an audition for a prolific director’s film – It’s called Ikitai or Will to Live. There are groups of girls her age all around her while she sits alone like carved stone in her chair. They’re giggling and chatting but Yuriko hasn’t said a single word to anyone. She’s so afraid of being sick if she opens her mouth because of nerves, and barely notices when she’s finally called in. Rinko remembers absolutely nothing about the audition now, which is typical for her. So focused, it’s like she’s living in a vacuum during auditions and filming, and nothing reaches her.
