One moment Sohee was watching her four-year-old playing in the swings and next, the whole building was looking for the little girl dressed in a deep blue bouffant dress. Sohee had every single person working in that facility looking for the girl; how could someone dressed in such an easy to spot dress be missing? The female's heart dropped. If anything, anything at all, happened to her daughter, she wouldn't be able to sleep that night, or for the rest of her life for that matter.
The little girl thought playing hide and seek with her mother was just the perfect way to start the afternoon. She had lunch with her mother and the uncle she loved the most and what better way to transition to the afternoon if not with hide and seek with mom and uncle? Sooyoung saw absolutely no problem with that, after all, uncle Wooyoung always said the best way to play hide and seek is to sneak around when nobody was looking. And she did just that! He should be proud. He would be proud if it wasn't for the fact he and the girl's mother were currently panicking, running up and down every possible set of stairs and checking every room. The trio was currently in a huge building where a charity event was going to take place, later in the afternoon.
Sohee was the owner of one of the largest brands for jewelry, leading her to be invited to such event. The female had decided to drag her brother and daughter along, seeing she couldn't stand leaving her baby behind. However, she was clearly second guessing her decision at that moment. Maybe she would've been safer with a babysitter.
"Mommy and uncle Woo won't find me here." She whispered softly, grinning as she hid behind one large curtain. Her little feet sat at the bottom of the curtain, clearly displaying her figure behind the thick fabric. Her small feet tapped against the floor excitedly as she clearly had no idea about the chaos she had started downstairs.
Her ears caught up to the sound of feet running around, clearly someone was looking for something, but she had absolutely no idea that almost everyone in that building was looking for her ā she only wanted her mother and uncle to look for her, either way. Ten minutes passed and nobody had found her, she was growing impatient and tired. Her mother never took that long to find her, but then again, she usually warned her mother they were playing hide and seek. Her small hand, held onto the curtain, head tilted to peek into the room. A small frown sat on her features as she realized she didn't tell her mother they were playing hide and seek and quite frankly, she had no idea where she was.
The room was filled with tables, round tables everywhere as if it was a dining room, one of the many she had seen ever since she remembers having enough brain power to remember things. Her mother was a businesswoman or something of the sort. She didn't quite understand it; all she knew was that her mother got invited to events left and right and her small self would always be by her side. Her curious eyes scanned the surroundings, finding a few people by the stage.
As worry started to grow in her, she decided to come out of her hiding spot, making her way through the tables only to stop by the stage, tugging the black pants of one of the men who were conversing about whatever business. The male who felt the small tug on his pants looked down to find a kid up to his knee. His sharp eyes turned soft with the sight of the little girl who clearly wasn't supposed to be there. His eyes scanned the room, knowing nobody else was there, but just making sure.
He had always heard when speaking to children, to lessen the difficulty of interaction, you should bend down to their eye level. With that in mind, he crouched down and gently patted the girl's head. Her hair was combed neatly into a ponytail, caged by a laced bow which's color matched her dress. A small smile stretched his lips, making him seem less threatening. "Hi there, what are you doing here?" He softly asked, watching the little girl shuffle uncomfortably. "I was playing hide and seek with mommy and uncle, but I think they don't know." She responded, with a frown, holding the guy's pants still.
"Let's go look for mommy and uncle then. Do you know your mommy's name?" He asked, holding his arms for the girl who stared at him quietly. Her mother had told her she shouldn't go around with people she didn't know because they could be bad people and suddenly the girl felt conflicted. She was lost and needed help, but she had no idea who this guy was. The male seemed to understand the concern in her eyes and quickly pointed to himself. "I'm uncle San, and this is uncle Yeosang." He continued, pointing over to the other guy matching his outfit and smile. Her small eyes peeked between the two people fully dressed in black. They did seem like nice people; their hair was combed back, no malice in their gaze even if she had no idea what malice was. Their eyes looked just like their mother's, soft and friendly. She decided they were a good pick.
"Is uncle not a bad guy then?" She asked, innocently, peeking between the two guys only to hear soft chuckles coming from both, who shook their heads. "We're not bad uncles. Let's go look for mommy, yes? Did mommy come to the charity event, too?" He questioned, easily picking the little girl up and getting up. She seemed more comfortable now and San couldn't help but admire the cuteness of such a little child. "Mommy's name is mommy." She confidently started, finally replying to the initial question San asked only to hear a soft giggle escape Yeosang's lips. She was adorable and he was starting to grow fond of her.
"Where were you and mommy before you came to hide?" Yeosang asked. The girl peeked over at San and frowned a bit. "I think mommy and I were at the park, but I don't know where the park is." She responded, kicking her feet out anxiously as San sat her by his hip, carrying her comfortably. Yeosang gave her a small nod, leading the other male out the room. "I think there's a park downstairs."
With that, the duo escorted the little one downstair to the park only to find nobody there. The girl frowned more, holding onto the blazer San was dressed in, suddenly becoming more anxious ā what if they left her there? She was lost and maybe her mother wouldn't return to the park to look for her.
"I have an idea." San suddenly announced, smiling ear to ear as he brought them to the main hall. There were probably more people there that could help the girl find their mother. He made his way up to the stage, feeling a bit nervous as he could feel a bunch of eyes on him. He didn't like this attention but that was not his main problem right now ā this little girl needed to find her mother and he was going to make that happen with or without his stage fright.
His hand started shaking as he stood in front of the few dozens of people that had started to gather. He tried his best not to focus on that, reaching for the microphone. "Hi, may I have your attention please?" His shaking voice started; he was sweating. "I have little-". He then realized he didn't ask the girl's name, turning his head to her just to quietly ask her name. The girl hid her face in his neck after answering softly. "Sooyoung, I have little Sooyoung here!" He announced, smiling as he held her close to him, understanding she was shy. "Sooyoungie got separated from her mother and uncle. If there's anyone looking for Sooyoungie, I'll be by the stage for the next thirty minutes. Thank you!" San quickly placed the mic back in its rightful place before stepping off the stage and standing to the right side.
Yeosang's displayed a proud smile. Once the male stopped by his side, he pat his back. "All good, San, all good you did great." He spoke, then peeking over at the little girl who shyly peeked at Yeosang. The male playfully made some gestures with his hand to entertain the little one, trying to give San a moment to relax as he knew fairly well his friend was all over the place with the fact he had to step on stage.
The announcement was heard by one of the staff who quickly led Sohee to the main hall. Her heart stopped for a moment. Wooyoung was quick to arrive at her side as well only to stand there frozen, as well. His lips were parted, allowing him to breathe through his mouth as his nose didn't seem to do a good job. His eyes ripped away from the sight a few meters away from him, quickly landing on the female who had the exact same reaction. But before he could react, her loud voice sounded.
"You!" She screamed, marching her way through the crowd as she continued. "Put my daughter down right now." And that tone was nothing but threatening. It was nothing like the soft Sohee he knew. Wooyoung was quick to run to her side to catch up to her, trying to hold her back.
"San?"
"Give me back my daughter."
Where the two different responses San had gotten once the duo made his way up to him. Yeosang visibly tensed seeing those two familiar faces. Wooyoung's features were soft yet confused but Sohee's? She was raging. If her gaze could kill, San would be buried six feet under that right second. In the mist of everything that was happening, San was looking between these two people he had no idea who they were, and the little girl held her arms out for her mother, squealing in excitement.
Sohee was quick to rip the girl apart from San who was shocked with how rude she was, especially in front of her child. Wooyoung was still too surprised to utter any other word; he was quietly taking in the figure of his best friend, only to be hit with another wave of confusion. "San?" He asked quietly, stepping forward just to frown. "Is that really you?" He hadn't seen him in so long that he couldn't believe it was the right person. He hadn't changed a single bit.
Yeosang quickly stepped between them, alarmed with the situation. His eyes found three bodyguards moving their way and quickly moved his friend to the side. "We have to get going, I'm glad Sooyoung found her mother, but we really have to go, San." He spoke, urgently just to try to tug the male away.
Sohee snorted, rolling her eyes. "Always on the runaway, I see. Don't you dare to show in front of me again." She warned, clearly wanting to curse the male out. San's eyes sat on her, heart suddenly racing as her eyes held something he wasn't sure he could decipher. His brows furrowed, ignoring Wooyoung who clearly was more open to help him understand the situation at hand. His hand reached forward, pushing Yeosang out the way as he moved closer to the female. "Did I do something?"
Sohee whose back was turned to him quickly whipped her head to look at the male, disbelief plastered all over her features. "Did you do something?" She repeated his question, scoffing as she placed her precious baby in Wooyoung's arms, moving closer to the male, glaring into his eyes. "You're unbelievable, San." She spoke, a bit more roughly, forgetting there was a whole audience in that room.
"That's enough." Yeosang warned, stepping up once again, speaking through gritted teeth. "You have no idea what you're talking about." He spoke, features now showing how scary he could be. He wasn't friendly like before; his eyes clearly warned the female that she didn't want to go down that route when so many people were watching.
"San." Another warning voice called, this time turning everyone's head to see an older man accompanied by three bodyguards. The female snorted, head shaking slowly. "You really didn't need to call for back up if your stuck ass can't take a simple conversation." She spoke, head shaking as she eyed Wooyoung and her daughter. "Don't ever touch my daughter again or I swear it will be your last day on Earth, you heard me?" She pointed her finger at San, proceeding to turn her back on him, just to leave a very confused San behind.
He could only see the way her silhouette was wrapped in a mermaid dress, color matching the one of the little girl's. His eyes sat on Yeosang who was now relaxing seeing both Sohee and Wooyoung move out of their sights. The bodyguards too, had returned to their usual places, somewhere in the crowd, leaving San and Yeosang alone.
"Who are they?"
Before San could continue to inquire about them, Yeosang shut him down. "People not worth remembering, San." His voice seemed sure of what he was saying but an inch of curiosity grew in the male's brain. If they really were nobody, all this ruckus would've been avoided ā he needed to get to the bottom of this.
San's brows furrowed again, looking down at his hands as he bit his bottom lip. He had no idea who those people were but why were they so angry at him? "Did...I do something, Yeosang?" He asked the burden sitting in his heart only to hear his friend sigh and shake his head. "San, it's not the time to worry about this. We need to get ready for tonight, they're really not people who are that important."
The male nodded his head, following his friend to the room they found the little girl in, worried he had somehow wronged those two. The male ended up focusing on what he came there to do, the worries being pushed into the back of his head as he made a mental note to himself to investigate whatever had happened that he didn't seem to recall.
Sohee and Wooyoung had moved to another room in that huge building, one of them clearly furious as the other held the girl who had fallen asleep.
"Wooyoung, I can't believe he has the..." She stopped, peeking at her daughter, only to see she was asleep and continue "...fucking nerve to even show up again!" She complained to her brother who nodded his head slowly. He let his sister rant until he expelled in one breath.
"What if...something happened?" That had Sohee halting her rant. Her eyes searched for any ounce of playfulness in her brother's confused gaze ā he was serious. She rolled her eyes, head shaking slowly. "I can't believe you're still trying to excuse him, Woo." She frowned, hurt by her brother's words. How could he, after everything she went through? She couldn't believe he would still take the male's side after everything.
"You know what, Wooyoung?" She started, tearing up as she barely called him like that, unless she was mad. The female reached for her daughter, picking her up from his arms to hold her. "Go back to your friend's side if you're going to act like this. Me and your niece clearly don't need you here if all you're going to consider are his feelings." She spat, turning her back on her brother who groaned in frustration.
"He was a big part of my life, too, So." He continued, following his sister. "Before he was your anything, he was my best friend. You don't seem to understand you weren't the only one losing something here." He spoke again, this time clearly mad.
"I can't believe after all these years you're arguing with me over San. Wooyoung, I don't give a fuck what you do with him, but don't you dare to bringĀ thatĀ up again." She warned, eyeing him, her bottom lip trembling as if announcing the crying fit to come. "I won't forgive him and you clearly don't care for your niece as much as you say you do if you're still picking that man over us."
Wooyoung rolled his eyes, crossing his arms before he exhaled loudly. "You're so fucking narrow minded. San is not that kind of man. Something happened." His voice was harsh now. The female nodded, a frown sitting on her lips as she sniffed. "I don't want to continue this conversation, Wooyoung. I don't want to harm the relationship we have either so please let's drop this. My Sooyoung is not going to be a ping pong ball." She muttered, holding her daughter closer to her before she left the room, making her way to the car.
His sister could be frustrating at times, and he grew up learning that, but the male couldn't bare to let his best friend go again. He placed his hand on his temple, rubbing it firmly as he closed his eyes. Just what happened to San? There was no way he could inflict that much pain on both siblings, not when he was the sole reason his sister built her empire. His heart felt tight in the small space it beat in his chest. He was going to get to the bottom of this, with or without his sister's permission. Wooyoung was not satisfied with the answer he was given.
