EXORCISM #13 Fire is a form of reading. Pulling all the threads out is a drawing. Torn forms stay torn but won’t sit still. A more perfect fake bed to unmake & never lie in is drawing you on. Leaving intact a white lace cave, some people at some weather telling things the truth serum can’t touch, the tread of ice on every surface when there’s no approach, there’s no approach. The lights go out. Winds go anywhere. Gentle ghosts, go place your shellac on any other surface but this. Nothing can sink you.
HOW TO PARTICIPATE Ask for a black linen suit lit from within. When none is forthcoming, act pissed! Commit the sin of heavenly variance. It’s not the precession of the equinoxes, it’s feelings: the feeling of being a major-league mole, the feeling called “the tentacles,” the under-the-floor convection current, the urge to split the skin off an unripe fig, the undecided feeling of an umpire or barber or Queen of Siberia alone in a small Siberia watching the salt dissolve who tries to participate but it’s complicated. The beach is even complicated. The woods are closed from all sides. There’s never a white-hatted Errol Flynn or a black linen suit lit from within. The comic nightingale has lost his player piano rolls & the pleasures of merely circulating are fucked. Ask for the sun, a human-scale sun. ⁂ Sam Lohmann lives in Portland and works as an academic librarian. Division Leap is excited to announce our latest publication, House Music - a collaboration between Portland poets James Yeary and Sam Lohmann, out late but just in time for their trip east for the Brooklyn Poetry Summit. The form of the book is a homage to the New York School collaborations of Ted Berrigan and Joe Brainard. One of 300 copies printed by hand on a beat HP 8100 and stab-stapled, of course.
