Ficklet #13
Ooooo the unlucky number... it kinda fits when you know whatâs to come ;)
So, hear me out, I really fucking love Dragon Age. And you know what that means? My brain did a thing. And when it does a thing? *It does a thing.* (You should see the doc Iâm working on for the au honestly...) Anyways, I present you an inquisitor Ace going to the bal at the Winter Palace in Orlais and getting into... his own sets of troubles. Enjoy!
-A
ps: ofc Sam is Orlesian I mean come on!
---
Sam had warned him hours, no weeks in advances to never trust the perfidious beauty of Orlais, for it was as treacherous as the one of a poisonous rose. From the golden halls and blue salons of the Winter Palace to the humbless of cottages, the Grand Game spread like a plague, infecting the hearts of the most nobles as well as the least, tarnishing, corrupting them as they engaged in its dangerous waltz. Ace had been warned over and over again about the cutthroat nature of Orlaisâ Game, but only now, as he stood surrounded by wicked eyes and wicked hearts, did he truly understand the vicious nature of Samâs homeland.
Glancing around the room, the Inquisitor took a deep breath as he noted the countless eyes fixated on him. Now would be a poor timing for good olâ anxiety to show up, wouldnât it? He squeezed Samâs hand as they pulled him a little closer, speaking under their breath.
âStay clear of masks like mines;â they motionned to their own snake-like mask, âmost members of my house would rather have you dead. Focus on CĂ©lĂšne, she should be wearing a plain, silver one, and never take yours off, compris?â
He nodded, fingers brushing against it to be certain it wouldnât fall off.
âDonât sneak away for too long or theyâll notice your absence and thereâs only so much some flirting can do. Oh, and one last thingâŠâ Sam pulled him closer, wrapping their arms around his waist and leaning in for a loving kiss. âYouâre dating Thedasâ best kisser, donât get too disappointed by the others.â
âArrĂȘte sâil-te-plaĂźtâŠâ he whispered, pushing out of their hold as Sam sighed.
âAce, nobody here cares if-â
âI do.â
His lover bit their lip, nodding with a small huff. âIâll stay in the ballroom.â
And on that, they walked away, leaving him alone in the middle of the crowd, lonely sheep in a pack of wolves. Tonight would be interesting.
Sometimes I draw. Sometimes we ignore Sam's tail's shitty proportions. Today is one of those days.
55. âI might have slept with your robe when you were gone.â - Sam and Aloys
It was late at night when Aloys pushed the door opened for the first time after a tiring week spent chasing down a local landlord that had been extorting his tenants, whose salary was barely enough to afford food. Stretching slightly, the hitman glanced around the darkened room. Nothing out of place. That was always a good sign.
âSam?â
No reply. The naga must indeed have been asleep. Taking off his boots, Aloys progressed into the darkened room and made his way to their bedroom. If Sam had managed to sleep, he was not about to be the one to wake them up, not when they had spent the last weeks running around without a halt.
Now in his room, Aloys sat down on the edge of the bed, took off his shirt -call this âbeing unable to sleep in a room over 35 degrees thanks to your forever cold loverâ- and threw it in a corner. Heâd pick it up in the morning. Laying on his back, he stayed like this for a few seconds, staring at the ceiling in an attempt to calm down his still buzzing mind. Something felt off, but he couldnât quite put his finger on it.
Huffing quietly, Aloys rolled on his side to put an arm over Sam and pull them closer, very much aware that meant heâd wake up with their tail tightly wrapped around his legs and their head on his chest. Not that he meant that in the slightest; if anything, seeing his loved one sleeping peacefully in his arms like that was the one reason he looked forward to waking up so early every morning. Except that instead of Sam, it was rather their absence that Aloys faced when he turned around, since the bed was seemingly empty beside him. His guts twisted painfully and his heart immediately starting racing in his chest; the last time they had been missing like that, Aloys had found Sam left for dead in a ditch.
âSam?!âÂ
He sat up, glancing around the room in hopes heâd just find them asleep on the floor -they had been known to do this before- or something, but nothing. Standing up, he was about to call their name again when he heard a soft shifting noise and a confused whine from the bed. The assassin turned around and, lo and behold, found a sleepy Sam, trying to rub the sleep out of the serpentine eyes as they sit up in his robe.
âAloys? Quâest-ce qui-â
Nearly throwing himself back on the bed, he pulled them in his arms, hugging the naga tightly.Â
âAre you okay?â They muttered, confusedly hugging him back.
Aloys pulled away, looking them up and down.
âI thought- where were you?â
âSleeping?â Sam frowned. âI was a little cold and I know you canât sleep when itâs to warm so I decided to turn into a snake andâŠâ they lifted up the robeâs fabric, âI didnât know when youâd be back.â
Aloys sighed with relief, pulling them down with him to lay on the bed again.
âDid you do that all week?â
âSleeping with your robe while you were gone?â They wrapped the tip of their tail around his ankle, burying their face in the crook of his neck, âI might⊠It smells like you.â
He smiled softly.
âDoes it?â
âKindaâŠâ They yawned, âyou smell a lot better.â
âOh?â
âMhmâŠâ Sam half-nodded, already falling back into sleep.
âI love you, Liebling.â
âTaim-...â
Sam didnât even mumble the rest of their sentence as they fell asleep for good, comfortable in his arms. Chuckling, Aloys pressed a kiss on their forehead before closing his eyes, glad to finally be back home.
â I am finally coming to terms with the fact that I am not cut out to be a productive member of society.â Aloys
I changed the prompt a little to fit better but shhh. As usual, Enlish under!
---
« Oh si! Ăa lâest! Ils me lâont clairement fait savoir en me pointant du doigt comme ça. »
« Ich dich auch, Liebling. »

đ and đfor Sam
đ Strengths:
They're a fast learner and a quick thinker, which is capital in fights.
đ Weaknesses:
They're easily emotional, reckless, dangerous to themself and stubborn.
23: Does your OC have a criminal record?
Yep. Drug charges, murder, thievery, arson and various smaller crimes. Sam has had a criminal record in most countries they lived in, however, they have faked their death enough times for most of those records to no longer really be affiliated to them.
Sam Hamane
Has tried to get hit by lighting more than once strictly to see if they were also resistent to natural current or just their own;
No one knows where Sam's abilities come from, not even them, but they do know it's linked to their blood;
Sam doesn't have any "stable" cycling. There's no way for them to predict for how long they'll be manic or depressed and how much time they have in between the two. Medication does eventually help a lot to stabilize it though;
While Sam can think in English, they actively fight against it 99% of the time because they've seen too many people lose their mother tongue to speak English;
Sam hasn't been to Capendu since the 17th century. They miss the village a lot but they also know it's rather small (say what you will Mamine, 1 700 is not a lot dbdbdbdb) and they're kinda scared of giving themself away by saying they grew up here on accident.
