Ihani Small Batch Coffee Tasting
Farmers are at the core of what we do - from seed to cup. As we proudly launch our latest small batch coffee from award-winning Bukonzo Joint Cooperative Union we will be joined by the coffee producer Baluku Paineto, and four other Fair to Farmer coffee origin partners, for a special meet & greet at our Ganges Cafe on Salt Spring Island on April 18th, 2015.
This group of celebrated coffee farmers, co-op managers and cuppers will be participating at SCAA in Seattle and finishing their Pacific Northwest trip by visiting our original roaster on Salt Spring Island.
Meet the producers:
Baluku Paineto, Bukonzo Joint Cooperative Union, Uganda Founded in Uganda in 1999, Bukonzo Joint is a co-operative union owned by its members — 83 percent women — who currently operate 5,500 small farms where high-quality, organically grown, hand-picked coffee is grown. Winners of this year’s Specialty Coffee Association of America Sustainability Award for its pioneering approach to gender justice, Bukonzo Joint is committed to improving the living standards of the rural poor, and ensuring that they are active participants in the economic, social, and political development of their community. We are currently working with them for our newest special small batch coffee, Ihani.
Roberto Salazar, Finca Pashapa, Honduras Finca Pashapa is a 30 hectare farm that has been ecologically and sustainably managed since 1965. Their goal is to maintain harmony with the environment and surrounding society. They pride themselves in having an excellent coffee production due to good soil and a varied ecosystem. A visitor to the farm will find a number of different lumber and fruit trees like coffee, avocado, pecan, and orange, which provide shade, produce oxygen, and provide a rich ecosystem for animals and people alike. Roberto’s coffee is featured in our Finca Pashapa.
Ana Alicia Salazar Davila, Cooperativa Alto Palomar, Peru Ana is a cupper in Villa Rica community and we’ve worked with this co-op since 2010.
Albino Nuñez, CAC Pangoa, Peru We’ve worked with this group since 2004, supporting various programs and youth groups.
Don’t miss the opportunity to meet these talented, inspiring people while asking questions and sharing stories over a cup of our newest small batch coffee - Ihani.
