The salmon are spawning in the little creek I grew up playing in. They are amazingly hard to see unless they are moving. When still, they look like a log in the water.

Kokanee Salmon Spawning...Lake Tahoe/Taylor Creek/October
Kokanee Salmon spawning...Lake Tahoe/Taylor Creek/October is what this video is about. VideoJoe is on a nature hike at Taylor Creek Rainbow Trail/Stream Profile just at South Lake Tahoe & he wants to see some Kokanee Salmon spawning up the Taylor Creek. When can you watch the Kokanee Salmon spawning up the Taylor Creek? October is the magic month & it's a fun walk down the Rainbow Trail to see the spawning Kokanne Salmon. Shoot most any summer month is a good time to walk the Rainbow Trail as you never know what you might see. The last time VideoJoe was down this little walk he just missed a momma bear with her two cubs ambling by. There were some forest ranger workers working on a deck & they said we just missed them. It's a pretty cool sight to see the spawning Kokanee salmon though so October is the month to see this amazing feat for sure. Yes the Kokanee Salmon live in Lake Tahoe for 2 to 4 years then they find their way back up the Taylor Creek to spawn. Come on out. Watch & learn as VideoJoeShows you the Kokanee Salmon spawn up the Taylor Creek at Lake Tahoe. Cool!

Fish Spawns on Obama’s Shoes – Video
When you think of shoes and George Bush, you see a middle eastern man angrily throwing his shoes at the former president. And from now on, when you think of Barack Obama and shoes, you’ll remember the Salmon that couldn’t keep its composure in the presence of the president.

Side by side shot of the Sooke River. First shot taken October 9th. The salmon were struggling to make it up the river. Then the rain finally came. Last shot was taken on November 4th. That's when I decided to stop driving my car through the water on Sooke River Rd. It was pretty easy swimming for the salmon after that.
Check out the weekly shots here.
Cheers,
Deanna
The Rising River - The changing water levels of the Sooke River during salmon spawning season. Starting October 9th - November 4th.
I wanted to take a photo here and there and document the changing river during salmon spawning season.
The first 2 weeks the water rose fast, and the salmon were loving it! After that the river got so high by November 4th, I could no longer even stand at the original beach I took all the prior photos. Due to weather changes and flooding on Sooke River Road I called this photo project to an early end. It was neat to pay close attention and watch the rainfall, rising river and the spawning salmon, birds, bears and more.
Cheers
