On the left is the side of a carriage house from around 1820 and on the right is a glimpse of a tea house designed by Samuel McIntire in the 1790s. The Peabody Essex Museum owns about 20 structures throughout Salem. This week the PEM celebrates the opening of a new wing highlighting its collection of Asian Export, contemporary Indian and maritime art. There are also new galleries devoted to textiles and fashion, Nathaniel Hawthorne and Native American art.
