"it's, uh..." kiba thinks for a second, both hands in his pockets, leaning against a wall. he didn't really mean to walk into sakura. he didn't really mean to see anyone he knew from before. but here he was. "i guess it's not so different from what you can imagine." an attempt, albeit a weak one, at lightness.

sakura is smart and kiba knows she figured it out immediately, if only for his now lack of forehead protector and newly acquired anbu tattoo. he should have worn a long sleeve shirt; he would have, had he known. there's not necessarily a rule to keep one's affiliation with the special forces a secret, kiba had just decided it was better for his friends to not know what somber path he had taken.

"i'm okay," he says because he can feel the questions coming. why, are you alright, did they force you, what happened. he has thought about how to answer them, but he doesn't really want to. "that's all you really need to know, sakura."

Everyone is expected to forge their own paths one way or another. Regardless of the direction the decision takes an individual in terms of career, life, love -- one can go left while the other the opposite route. It is bound to happen. Growing up ( and growing old ) forces one to do such things.

“shino,” it’s kiba’s serious voice. he means business. he has asked this question to plenty of people but there are only a few whose answers actually matter. “would you still love me if i was a worm?”

                  ‘ yes. ’  

the answer was immediate, and he crossed his arms,  staring at him and tilting his head a bit.

    A house party with all your classmates and friends, combined with some booze is bound to result in some kind of drama. Especially when one lightweight orange loser drinks enough to be totally tactless in front of a girl who’s been in love with him since they could walk. Hinata is not the kind of girl to complain, but Ino had the opportunity to witness the scene first hand and lead her into her room before further damage was done. They were laying in Ino’s bed, talking, when the door flung open and Kiba unapologetically joined the girl talk, probably concerned for his friend.

    Hinata excuses herself after a while, having them promise to stay until she gets back. So that’s how Ino finds herself in bed with the very guy she’d meant to look flawless for tonight. Blue hues glance up and she’s suddenly way too aware of the sharp line of Kiba’s jaw so she averts her eyes before it would show on her face.

          𝙾 𝙽 𝙴  𝚆 𝙰 𝚂  𝙽 𝙴 𝚅 𝙴 𝚁  𝚃 𝙾 𝙾  old for a sleepover with a friend.  And one was never too busy for a friend in need— Or, well, Hinata wasn’t, anyway. So she’ll continue to grip her dear friend’s hand as he wriggles about with anxiety, hoping he can feel the empathy that she’s trying to push through her palm and into his.  I’m here, I’m here. She chants in her head. If only he could read her mind.  I know what you’re feeling. I have the dreams, too.

                 “I’m here,” She finally voices the words she hopes would soothe Kiba’s pain and anxiety like a salve on a wound.  “And you’re okay.  You’re safe.” 

          Hinata gives Kiba’s hand a gentle squeeze before she places his clammy hand against her belly. She swallows hard before taking slow, deep breaths.  He needed to focus on something other than his clenched muscles and pounding heart. 

                  “Feel how slow my belly rises and falls?” She asks him slowly, calmly.  “Fo-Focus on that and try to copy it.  We can breathe together.”

no kiba in sight (he’s working the night shift at hana’s clinique) but he would never forget valentine’s day.

she smiles, giddy, when she takes the package from the delivery man. one red carnation alone would have sang from love and adoration alone, but she received a whole bouquet of them. she muses over their meaning as dainty fingers brush against the petals. deep love. affection.

she tucks a wayward platinum strand behind her ear and brings the note close to her lips. eyes close, the note smells of mahogany and rain, it smells of kiba -- and her heart flutters. she sneaks a little kiss to the card, while no one's watching, before placing it back on the counter.

The late afternoon wind played gently with long blonde strands, hands gripping the cold iron of the rail at the side of the small the bridge. The Yamanaka had been sitting above the stream, waiting for the other to receive her message and join her here. Now they were sitting next to each other, feet dangling, silent, for the best of a half an hour.

She couldn't answer yet when he asked why did she send for him. And she sure as hell wasn't ready to tell him what was wrong. When in fact, nothing was wrong. Except for having to muster the strength to tell him why she had been so pissed with him lately. Their interactions always included a lot of bickering and fights, but her anger only started to get serious when a third party was involved.
