((Canonically Scrooge tends to look down on poor people, especially beggars asking for handouts, and tends to equate poverty with laziness. He believes that anyone can earn a living and have a roof over their head if they work their hardest.
My own version though, while I haven’t really gotten around to exploring it, is a bit canon divergent in this respect. Though far from charitable and doesn’t like being asked for handouts, at least remembers that he grew up poor himself and a transition from poverty doesn’t happen overnight and so doesn’t necessarily judge them unfavorably. I actually have a headcanon that when approached by beggars, particularly children, he’ll offer to pay them for small menial tasks, such as going out to buy him a cup of coffee or a newspaper and if they decline the job he just dismisses them and moves on.))
