A page from Dudo of Saint-Quentin's History of the Normans (ink and pigments on vellum).
Dudo is believed to have been Dean of the canons at the Saint-Quentin monastery (now the Basilica of Saint-Quentin). Â He was commissioned to write this history by Duke Richard I of Normandy sometime in the late 10th to early 11th centuries. Â It may have been finished after Richard's death in 996.
