Story:
She loved her mate, an older warrior. He told her he loved her. He was the only one to treat her like an adult.
He was helpful...for the most part. When their little son came, he encouraged her to handle it herself.
He only wanted her to learn. That’s why he was gone for so long.
It was okay, though.
She could take care of her son.
But she had only recently become a warrior, and she had no idea what to do.
How was she to know a kit would freeze to death when you leave them alone a night or two?
Or that her loving mate never wanted to speak to her again?

--Guilt of her kit’s death caused her to starve herself. It wasn’t entirely intentional, she was just too miserable to bother eating.

She got pregnant while young, and her mate (an older warrior) abandoned her. Not knowing what to do, she left the den for a little bit to clear her head and came back to find that her son had frozen to death because she wasn’t there. She starved out of guilt

and it upsets her because she doesn’t deserve and also she’s an adult!
but the parent just sadly looks at her and is like ‘sweety, you’re still only a kit, you were just forced to be an adult before you were ready’

Originally (mentioned on my old blog), Sagepool was adopted by Shadewillow, but I thought of something better
Both cats were young when they were manipulated and groomed by older toms.
Shadewillow luckily got out of it, killed her abuser, and lived a long happy life with her family.
Sagepool died before she could get out of it (dying young), her kit died, and she still believed she was the only one at fault after she died.
So what if Shadewillow becomes a trusted adult figure in Sagepool's life? She helps Sagepool understand that she was a victim, she supports her through processing it and moving into regular life (as she had done herself). She becomes Sagepool's main support. In turn, Sagepool becomes her light (afterlife was gloomy and dark and isolating for her before Sagepool came along and brightened it).
Though Shadewillow is much older than her, she's not like a mother figure. Their friendship was just that--a friendship, until Sagepool had remarked that Shadewillow was like her older sister, and that stuck. From then on, that's how they referred to each other: as sisters.

I mentioned this in tags, but Sagepool got pregnant very close to the time she became a warrior.
1) Cats are typically made warriors at 12 moons, so she was about 12 or 13 moons old when she became expecting.
2) Cat pregnancies last for two moons, making her either 14 or 15 when Mosskit was born
3) Mosskit was <1 moon old when he died.
4) Sagepool likely died either two or three moons after his death.
This makes her between 17 or 18 when she died, or even still 16 if Mosskit died at a few days old, which is most likely.
