Willow made me try out for debate yesterday. She kept on going on and on about how smart I am, how well I did in government class last year, how I only live once.

I never do things like that, but a tiny part of me wanted to try. Today I got an email that I got on the team.

Sometimes I wonder if you’re proud of me. I’m nothing like Rose. You know, it was her fourteenth birthday last weekend. There were at least twenty sweaty teenagers in the house that night.

I gave her your old denim jacket, the one I found in the attic. When she saw it, she cried. And then I did, too. We held each other and sat in her room for about an hour while her friends partied downstairs.
