" --I don't know what's got you wanting to be this great SUPERHERO but whatever it is, it has to stop. You have to stop." Dean said firmly, his tone leaving no room for arguments. Sam had already tried, more than once, to convince him that what he was doing was a good thing-- But how could hanging out with someone like Ruby & using some weird mind powers to exorcise demons ever be a good thing?

"Sam..." He stepped closer, placed his hands on the taller man's shoulders, trying so hard, so DESPERATELY to just get him to finally listen to him before it was too late. Before Sam ended up going too far. ( His brother was going down a very dangerous path & the eldest Winchester feared that if Sam went too far... There would be no going back & Dean would then find himself in a position where he'd have to do what their father had asked him to do in case something like that happened. No, he didn't even want to think about that possibility, not even for a second longer ).

"This, being best friends with a demon bitch and just doing what you've been doing lately? That's MADNESS and it's changing you, it's turning you into..." A monster. He trailed off, shaking his head.

"I know we've talked about this before but I gotta ask you one more time to stop. Please LISTEN to me-- please stop."

Dean had been pacing back & forth in the cheap motel room for the past what, twenty minutes, half an hour-- an entire hour? He wasn't sure. His dad had left a good few hours ago, claiming he had some important stuff to take care of but he'd be back soon. Dean didn't make many questions about it, he never questioned his father's actions all that much or at all ( even though sometimes he probably should ). He simply trusted him, ALWAYS.

But then he'd been left here with only his gnawing thoughts for company-- SAM. He wondered how his younger brother was doing... Was he eating well? Getting enough sleep? Was he enjoying this whole college thing? Was he finally HAPPY now?

Now that the initial hurt & BETRAYAL he had felt upon watching his little brother & best friend walk away, leave him behind, was starting to wear off-- the urge to just call Sam was driving him insane. It was all he could think about these days and if he didn't do it soon, he might actually lose his mind--

Might as well do it now before dad comes back.

He stopped pacing, held the phone to his ear, unable to even breathe properly as he waited for the other to pick up. He hadn't seen, hadn't talked to Sam in several months & as much as he hated to admit it, he missed it. Missed hearing his voice, missed seeing him every day--

He missed Sam.

& when his brother answered the call, he was silent for a little too long. He even worried Sam would end up hanging up. His heart was racing & his lips parted to let the words come out--

" --Hey, Sammy."

     they’re early ... sitting on a concrete bench, ticket stub in hand, and not saying much. the weekend was fun, but now it’s over. there’s a LUMP growing in his throat, one that had started somewhere in his chest, and he’s scared to death that if he opens his mouth now, what comes out will keep them from ever having this again. he just ... doesn’t want to be alone anymore. sam left for school, and dean feels broken on the inside. they haven’t talked about dad, not even once in the last forty-eight hours since dean set foot in california. they only chatted about surface things. like the tan on his brother’s skin. the hot girls in his co-ed dorm. nothing about any jobs he’s had. nothing about how he’s aching from outside in, crushed and empty and pissed the fuck off, because that would ruin it. the magic. if that’s what you wanna call it.
