I’m gonna say it has a lot to do with not also having things like tone of voice, eye contact, and body language in there, so there is much less confidence that you communicated your message properly.
Yeah, that sounds about right, especially with leaving messages for friends and family.
Also, whenever you get the answering machine for an office or service they always have a list of things you need to leave in the message and I am always worried I'll forget one and they won't answer back because of it. This one asked for a member ID (which I didn't know I had) SIN# and phone number. Oh, and reason for calling, which thankfully I didn't forget @_@
