Kinda weird for what it is. In theory, the alien plot should be an excuse plot for Godzilla battling through his rogues gallery. In practice, it’s more of a kaiju movie in the background of a human-centric action movie. It’s not bad and it stays fairly engaging, but it’s weird to have this big Godzilla grand finale and spend large chunks of time wondering if Big G is still a part of the movie. Some of the effects work is pretty shaky, too. Bold to make fun of American Zilla’s CGI and then use some questionable CG yourself. An appropriate cap to the Millennium era—shaky and unsure of its purpose, but still decently entertaining.
