‘interest’

jaewon likes large crowds, likes when parties are full to the brim, loud and drowning in the music, everyone smiling and dancing and dressed up like birthday presents. he does have a tendency to get quite distracted by everyone, but not in a overtly crazy type of way, not at a formal ball like this. he likes watching them dance, watching them talk, watching the ways they connect with others and address each other, polite but friendly enough he supposes.
he has very little talent for formalities, unfortunately, so when he goes about greeting people, he usually uses their first names, bright smiles beneath shining eyes, every iota of information he has on them always at the ready for use in small talk or more intense conversations. as for the intended wife of his best friend, however, jaewon is miffed about only knowing the bare bones of her background, her family history, her reputation, and her style. all of which, of course, were quite impeccable-- otherwise he can't imagine the pyo king and queen arranging her marriage to chanwoo-- but he hasn't managed to delve into conversation with her just yet, and really get a better sense of who she is as a person. is she someone who will benefit chanwoo? is she someone who will hinder him?
he needs to speak with her, just a little, learn her character, learn her personality. after that, then he can judge whether or not she's worth someone as important to him as chanwoo.
after almost half the night is gone (and an important exchange between himself and said best friend), jaewon finally makes his way over to the young duchess, immediately presenting himself and bowing respectfully to her. "hyun heeyeon, it's nice to finally make your acquaintance," he smiles at her. "i've heard quite a bit about you. i was wondering if you might do me the honor of a dance?"
