heres something i dont think straight fans understand: when they say they just "dont see" what lgbt+ fans do when we call our favs gay, it doesn't invalidate our claims. it doesn't make our favs any less likely to be gay. Straight Fans arent able to detect gay culture or perceive actions their favs do as gay in the same way lgbt+ fans because guess what?? straight fans are straight and therefore literally cant notice these things! its not discrimination or heterophobia or whatever its just the truth. and just because straight fans arent seeing the same thing as lgbt+ fans doesnt mean their favs are automatically straight. and heres something i dont think homophobes understand: even if their fav is actually straight, if their fav is an ally in any way, shape, or form of the lgbt+, then they will NOT be insulted by lgbt+ fans projecting onto them and finding a safe space in their group and fandom, because being perceived as gay is NOT an insult. if it turns out that your fav is straight and Does think it's gross when people assume they are gay, or get offended by it, then they are also homophobic, whether this homophobia is internalized or not.
