Ryan Condal skipped the Wattpad phase and it shows.
"fire and blood isn't supposed to be a completely true story. the showrunners can adapt things how they want, they don't have to follow the source material."
my brother in christ they are not even following season one
The White Washing of Rhaenyra is peak Pettiness on a Scale Unseen in Adaption.
For people who didn't read Fire and Blood.
After the Battle of Tumbleton the main reason that Daeron and the Main Green Army didn't march on King's Landing despite smashing the Main Black Army to splinters - slaughtering the Starks and the Riverlords to the man - was that Rhaenyra was holding the entire city hostage. She was using the Smallfolk and Alicent as human shields so that Daeron would not attack the city.
The fear of being human shields to Daeron's retribution after the Butcher's Ball and the murder of Maelor was so palpable that when Helaena dies, the Smallfolk revolted against Rhaenyra out of both Love for Helaena, justice or her children, and fear of Daeron's revenge after the absolute tear he went on when Maelor was murdered and the Black Army showed up with Criston's head on the main Royal Standard at Tumbleton.
Now Sara Hess is taking that storyline and flipping it to White Wash Rhaenyra. Claiming that Ormund and Daeron are holding the population of Tumbleton hostage is a malpractice of writing that should be prosecutable.
They're literally stealing plots from the Heroes of the Greens like Daeron and Helaena to make Rhaenyra something she never was in order to own George R.R. Martin and "The Chuds" by ruining the 'naysayers' favorite characters as a middle finger to fans and the author of the fucking lore.
Bro, this is just pure childish immaturity that I'm kind of embarrassed second hand from watching.
lmao so GRRM's notablog post criticizing Ryan Condal's writing choices has apparently now been deleted. 💀 the girls are fightinggg
"I have no idea what Ryan has planned, if indeed he has planned anything." 💅

One of the things that really bothered me about the erasure of Nettles as a character from Season 2 of House of the Dragon is the fact that it murdered one of the best possible plot points they could have done.
[Warning: Fire & Blood book spoilers]
I always really liked the idea that Rhaenyra's eventual hostility towards Nettles is motivated by the discovery that Nettles has no actual blood ties to Valyria; she's just a regular-degular commoner who bonded with a dragon by stumbling her way into a crude form of blood magic with all those sheep she'd been feeding Sheepstealer.
This revelation, that any random schlub can technically become a dragonrider and that it isn't something determined by Targaryen blood alone, would pose a massive threat to the concept of Targaryen supremacy. Their monopoly on these biological superweapons is the foundation upon which they justify and maintain their rule. Furthermore, Nettles' identity as a dragonrider not only poses a threat to the concept of Targaryen divine right, it poses a threat to the feudal system as a whole. You cannot have the peasantry finding out they can become gods among men, that everyone's places in life aren't predetermined by bloodlines and gods. It'll upend society.
So Rhaenyra is obviously anxious to be rid of this threat to her power, but her actions are misinterpreted through a lens of misogyny by the old septons and maesters who document history, dismissing it as "Oh Rhaenyra was fat and 30, she must've been jealous of the hot younger woman her husband obviously preferred, chicks be petty like that". That kind of misogyny has plagued Rhaenyra her entire life, it'd be ironic if the Westerosi scholar class inadvertently did a cover-up of this insanely devastating information because they just couldn't see past their own sexism.
All of this would be so fucking thematically on point for the ASOIAF universe, it would've been SO interesting...but then the showrunners replaced her with a pre-existing character from Valyrian dragonrider nobility.
It's indicative of a lack of foresight, understanding of the source material, imagination, etc. that doesn't bode well for the series. Such a bummer.
everytime a hotd "fan" shoves the entire blame for the targtower siblings going borderline insane upon alicent and her so-called bad parenting, an angel fucking commits suicide.
everytime a hotd "fan" calls alicent a bad mother while completely ignoring viserys' existence, essentially forgetting about how basic biology works and how viserys was too equally responsible for the targtowers, an angel fucking commits suicide.
everytime a hotd "fan" hates criston endlessly for his faults while forgetting his qualities, and loves daemon for his qualities while forgetting his faults, AND goes on to compare the two, an angel fucking commits suicide.
everytime a hotd "fan" blindly defends poor uwu baby lucerys and hates on the endlessly cruel sadistic psycho aemond, blaming the latter entirely for the whole eye incident since they can't accept the goddamn fact lucerys was in the wrong, an angel fucking commits suicide.
everytine a hotd "fan" argues how rhaenyra was a just, benevolent queen for the smallfolk and a superior warrior than aegon, an angel fucking commits suicide.
everytime a hotd "fan" says how BnC was justified as it was nothing but "a son for a son" while completely ignoring how lucerys' death, a pure accident btw, was also nothing but revenge by aemond for his permanent mutilation, his mother's open humiliation, his father's utter lack of gaf, AND the painful silence he and his side of the family had to maintain for years, an angel fucking commits suicide.
so yeah that's why there's been severe shortage of angels ever since the hotd show was released.
Hot take: Only reason why Rhaenyra's character is so "boring" is because Ryan Condal took what was meant for Rhaenyra and gave it to Alicent. That green dress scene was specifically meant for Rhaenyra Targaryen. That was a moment meant to show that Rhaenyra was standing up for herself in the books. I'm only putting this out there because I got an inbox from a anti-rhaenicent ranting about how Ryan Condal hates Rhaenyra's character.
The king's marriage to Queen Alicent: "At the opening feast, the queen wore a green gown, whilst the princess dressed dramatically in Targaryen red and black. Note was taken, and thereafter it became the custom to refer to "greens" and "blacks" when talking of the queen's party and the party of the princess respectively."
I get where they are coming from because they could've made Alicent's character interesting without stealing from the events of other characters.
