17) things you said that I wish you hadn’t [rxoulfr of course c: ]
His words almost sounded slurred, voice heavy with alcohol, making her jolt as she passed into the living room. Her brow furrowed, turning to look at him, watching him brood and curse to himself, taking a cautionary step back when he finally rose to his feet.He knew, she’d told him. Told him that she was going to go out with friends (despite the pains they were at the galas she met them as, they were all she really had). Why didn’t he believe her?Why couldn’t she answer?
“I asked you a question.”
Her mouth dropped open slightly, desperately fumbling with her words but managing nothing more than a sigh of distain as Rafe slunk closer. With a heavy swallow, head hanging slightly, the woman went again to step away, freezing as his hand came to grip her jaw. Close enough to smell the bitter drink on his breath, she winced at the building pressure, carefully trying to pry away his fingers.
"B-baby, you’ve drank far too much… Let go, okay? You’re hurtin’ me.” Her voice broke slightly as the hold loosened, watching his eyes soften slightly. Was that regret she could see? “I was seeing some friends, that’s all. I told you, remember?”
Sarah frowned as his expression shifted again, hand softly rubbing the spot he’d once been gripping as his arm dropped away. He looked angry, tired, moving away to pace back and forth, hands balled into fists by his side. She knew that work could rile him up, but never to this point. Not to wear he’d drunk to the point of mindless babbling to himself, to being outwardly aggressive with her. Reaching out to stop his own, hushed rant, she was quick to flinch away at his response.
"Were you… Were you with someone else? Back to what you used to be? I wouldn’t be surprised.”
The words were vile, spat at her like venom. She’d stood on a snake that didn’t want to strike.Breath catching in her throat, her eyes stung, words gathering and choking her as he glared onwards. He was quick to realise his mistake, shoulders slumping as he watched the tears slowly trail her cheeks, trying to snag her arm as she turned to leave. Shit, it would have went better if she hadn't pulled away. Jerking forward to try and free her arm, one foot clipped the other, gravity taking hold and bringing her toppling forwards.Part of her wanted it to be over then.
Her face was throbbing, head spinning as she hauled herself up and onto her knees, hazy vision making out patches of glistening red on the formerly pristine porcelain floor. Groaning, Sarah swatted his hands away as he tried to help, unwilling to feel for whatever was the source of the bleed, unwilling to have to look at him after what he'd said.Standing now, slowly, staggering in an attempt to gain her balance, she let herself sway as she walked, grimacing at the bitter taste in her mouth.
"I need to... I need to go to s-sleep. I think I'll sleep down here tonight. Just- stay away from me, alright? You can talk to me when you're f-fucking sober."
