The Intercept reports Amazon is paying a consultant with ties to the Koch brothers $3,200 a day to thwart warehouse workers' historic unionization drive in Bessemer, Alabama. The consultant, Russell Brown, is the president of the Koch-backed Center for Independent Employees and the head of RWP Labor, which claims it helps companies with “maintaining a union free workplace.” The 5,800 Amazon workers at the facility in the suburbs of Birmingham are continuing to vote in a weeks-long process on whether to become the first unionized Amazon warehouse in the United States. Amazon, which is headed by Jeff Bezos — one of the world's two richest men — has a long history of union busting.
