The RUSH PEPBOX was used by a number of leading groups in the 60âs including The Beatles (who used one at Abbey Road during the recording of Revolver), The Shadows, The Animals, Georgie Fame and the Blue Flames, Zoot Moneyand others. It comes with a Certificate of Authenticity signed by Pepe Rush himself.Built on a copy of the original printed circuit board using rare NOS (new old stock) germanium transistors, some of which are over 40 years old, to capture the unique original sound, and housed in a faithful recreation of the original wedge shaped welded steel enclosure with engraved panels, using a 9 v battery, we have gone to extraordinary lengths to ensure that this reissue is as close to the originals as possible, and each unit is passed by the designer. We use metal film Resisters, special low noise screen out put cable, ACY21/ ACY41 Germanium Transistorâs, all manually engraved labels.Interview with Pepe RushThe âRush PepboxâBy Pepe RushThe idea for the design of the âRush Pepboxâ came to me when I wasworking in my factory in Soho, London, building Bass and PublicAddress equipment for some of the biggest groups in the middle 60âs. Inabout 1965 a guitarist from one of the big groups came in and said hehad heard an American Record with a distorted sounding guitar and itsounded great.I thought about it and a couple of days later came up with the design forwhat was to become the âRush Pepboxâ. I built a prototype usinggermanium transistors and tried it through one of the amps we werebuilding and it sounded distorted, just what I had been working so hardto design out of our amplifiers. I sold quite a few. The Beatles, TheShadows and various other big groups of the time had them and theywere used on a number of recordings.
