Ruscus hypoglossum is native to Europe. Common names include spineless butcher's-broom, mouse thorn and horse tongue lily. I never would have guessed, if Janice at the greenhouse had not told me, but apparently they grow this plant for the plant morphology class because what appear to be leaves are actually derived from stem tissue. Convergent evolution is fascinating. #Ruscushypoglossum #Ruscus #hypoglossum #CUgreenhouse #botany (at CU Greenhouse) https://www.instagram.com/p/CoA6xJBvppA/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
Made these two sister arrangements. My roommate (former partner) said the first one is dainty and the second one is sexy. They are made up of alstroemeria, roses, and Israeli ruscus. The red one sold today uwu

Ruscus hypoglossum is a shrubby evergreen with a super interesting growth form. The tiny flowers appear to sprout out of a trapdoor in the middle of the plant’s leaves, but they don’t! They’re actually cladodes, or false leaves— flattened stem-like structures that resemble leaves. The real leaves are small and clustered right around the flower.
Working in the floral department has had a pretty big impact on me.
Forgot to note: went on a much needed and deserved vacation. I’ve finally made an Instagram account. Toss me a follow if you’d like! @kilosophy_
