does "don't know this character" include "know them but only by osmosis, don't consume the source material" or is that under "no strong opinion"
In cases like those you can vote for whichever you feel most accurately describes your opinion about them. People were even voting “don’t know” on Batman and Spongebob so I’d definitely say if you feel like you know of them but just not quite enough to be able to form an opinion, it’s totally ok to vote don’t know
I vote don’t know on a lot of stuff I’ve absorbed through osmosis. I’ve even voted don’t know on characters from series I’ve only watched a single episode of, because I thought “I would probably have a strong opinion if I knew more information about them, and the only reason I don’t is how little of them I’ve seen”. In the end it’s always up to your personal feelings on what choice best represents your opinion
Ok clarifying question is this poll about whether we like them as a character or as a person? Bc there are definitely characters where im like "This is a stunningly done villain and i love how they were written and the story would not have the same without them but whenever the fandom starts trying to justify their actions (or, say, treat them as a father figure to the character they abuse *cough* plukas *cough*) i want to start biting"
Whichever one you feel better represents your opinions on them! It can be subjective and change from character to character. There are some well written villains I would vote love for and some I’d vote hate depending on whatever better represents my overall view and opinion. And some characters I love to hate or both love and hate so I just decide which emotion outweighs the other for me.
I think matchups from round 2 onward would probably be the best way to do things (so people don't lose interest from repeating the same polls) though curious how you'll approach it as far as options? Maybe something like "Which character do you feel most strongly about? [Character A] [Character B] [Feel equally strongly about both] [Don't feel strongly about either] [Only know one of them] [Don't know either]" ???
Maybe something like that! Or maybe something like this ask, maybe something like this other ask, maybe just linking to each other’s polls within their own posts. There’s plenty of time to determine which one is best so I’ll be mulling it over until then
So, round one is already revealing a lot of things about this competition. Many characters that only got one submission are getting VERY divisive results! It’s making me glad I decided to include every submission! I don’t know every character so I’m glad I trusted that if even one person submitted someone, they might have their finger on the pulse of a fandom that got overlooked.
Let me start by saying that with this new idea I have, nothing will change about round 1. It will still be all individual polls and the top 50% of most controversial characters will make it through.
But for future rounds, what if I used the results of round 1 as seeding to make matchups in round 2? Characters would compete head to head and have more voting options, or have their polls link to the separate poll of their opponent (not sure which one yet. Idk there's time to decide and gather opinions). This would make it more interesting and not just the same polls every round. What do you guys think?

As we had the other poll, most of you want the stories of how people ended up shipping the ship in the polls. I will not submit any story without permission, so here is what we will do!
Option one: You can send me an ask telling me you want your story to be told, specifying which ship you sent (you can see the ships on one of the list above). This ask can be anon or not. You can also tell me if you want to be tagged with the story (if you send an anon ask, I will assume you don't want to be tagged, same thing if you don't specify you want to be added). This ask wil not be answered in the blog.
Option two: You can send me a DM telling me which ship you sent and that you want the story to be told, specifying if you want to be tagged with the story (if you don't specify, I will just assume you don't want). I will reply as soon as possible!
If you don't send me an ask or a DM, I will just assume you don't want the story to be told. And that's completely fine ❤️
Pd: For the Berdkris (Berdly and Kris), Fiddlestan (Fiddlefort McGucket and Stanley Pines), YellowCrooked (Yellowfang and Crookedstar), Shinhyuk (Shin Tsukimi and Yoo Joonghyuk) ships, you will have to specify which was your story due to those ships having 2+ submissions, the others are not a problem because they only have one submission.

There are way too many characters here so I’ve made a small decision.
If any media has a ton of different characters submitted, and some have more than one submission and some have only one, then any that only got one submission will not compete. For example, future one-submission homestuck or precure characters will be disqualified because there are certain characters from each that got more than one submission, so these are probably not controversial enough even though we know the form reached many in the fandom.
(However, all current homestuck precure etc one-submissions that are currently posted or in the queue will stay and still get to compete. Sorry to make this decision. But I figure it weeds out low-quality submissions since fans DID find the poll and have the opportunity to get them submitted more, unlike a one-submission character who was the ONLY one from their show who was submitted. These characters will NOT be affected)
