After being left by her former mate in the middle of the war, Rubystrike threw herself into her role as a warrior and mentor. Always having been a fiercely protective cat, she took young Dunepaw and his apprentice peers under her wing and sheltered them from the cruel world outside of DustyClan camp, but it wasn't enough. Dunepaw was killed in battle, leaving Rubystrike furious at the rogues who took the young tom's life.

Since the end of the war, Rubystrike has become a guardian to many orphaned young clan members left without their families and no one else to hold onto. Seeing Cranestep killed after the mostly peaceful last year broke her trust in the cats outside of her own clan. One of them must have killed the poor young tom.
