Iāve had a really great time being your Santa this year! I know my messages have been spotty, and Iām sorry for that, but you always had a wonderful reply that I was so excited to see. I had an idea in my head for where this story would go but as I began writing it, it turned into something different. Itās just a fluffy little slice of life sort of thing, with some loose references to the most recent season of OUAT. I left it very vague though. I hope you like it!
Prompt:Ā Belle loves hearing Rumple laugh
The house was dark and quiet when Belle woke up, and she frowned as she tried to determine what exactly it was that woke her. According to the red numbers on her nightstand, it was the wee hours of the morning - 2:37, to be precise. Not a time that she normally found herself awake. A quick stretch of her hand revealed an empty space beside her, so perhaps that was what had woken her. She usually woke if her husband was gone. The bed was still warm on his side though, so Belle settled back into the sheets and closed her eyes; heād return any minute and she could go to sleep again without any worries. Not that she was worried by any means now, but it was true that she usually slept better with Rumple in the bed beside her. Ā After all they had been through, everything they had suffered, she just felt better when he was nearby.
It wasnāt that she didnāt think she could take care of herself; Belle knew she could, and she had. If something happened to threaten her or her family, she knew that she could defend them. She was strong enough to walk away from her husband when it was in her better interests, or her sonās, and she was strong enough to give him a second chance when she saw that he was changing. But they were better together, and always had been. So when he was there, she was able to relax a little more and trust that he had her back just like she would have his.
Belle shifted, rolling to her other side and tugging at the blankets again. The numbers on the clock now read 2:43, and there was still no sign of Rumple. It wasnāt completely unusual but she was a little antsy now. There had been many times that Rumple slipped out of bed in the middle of the night to take care of something and Belle accepted that. It just meant a few less minutes of sleep as she had to find him and see what he was doing - and sometimes coax him back to bed, when it was obvious that he needed the sleep more than he needed to follow the trail of curiosity that had pulled him from sleep. But tonight it was cold and she was so warm under the covers that she didnāt want to get up despite the fact that they had heat in the house - a very welcome convenience in this world. She had always hated the chill in the air in the Dark Castle back in the Enchanted Forest.
With a huff, Bell shifted again, the sheets cool and soft against her bare toes. 2:51 now, according to the clock, and she knew that it was all but useless to make another attempt at sleep. At least until she had seen for herself what Rumple was doing. She didnāt hear noise from the master bath, so that was ruled out. She sighed and sat up, brushing hair off her face and behind her shoulders. The room was dim but her eyes were well-adjusted, and she didnāt need a light to see. She navigated through the dark bedroom and into the hall, wincing at the cold floor under her bare toes. She should have looked for slippers but it was too late now. Going back would be more trouble than it was worth, so Belle pressed on. She could see a light ahead, spilling from underneath the crack in the door of the nursery. A little ball of worry eased its grip on Belleās heart as she stepped closer. She hadnāt even realized that she was worried until that moment, as she heard the low murmur of Rumpleās voice. Perhaps he heard something on Gideonās monitor, or perhaps it was just happenstance that he woke and came to check on their son. Belle herself did it at least once a week; after what had happened with Gideon, she could hardly believe that their baby was back now - she sometimes expected him to be the tall man from her visions. But they had solved that problem - together. And now they were raising their son together, as it should be.
Pausing in the hall, Belle leaned against the wall for a moment and listened to Rumple reading. It was her book, she knew; the words were as familiar as her own name and she could picture each page as easily as she could picture the love in Rumpleās eyes and the fascination in Gideonās. A laugh broke the flow of words and Belleās lips curled into a smile. It seemed rare to hear Rumple laugh; he had been through so much lately, and she couldnāt blame him for the somber mood that he carried so frequently. But she did so love to hear him laugh. There was nothing to worry about, and Belle didnāt begrudge her husbandās attention on their son. She turned and padded back down the hallway as silently as she had come.
~~~~~
She was late. Belle hated being late, even for something so simple as family dinner. Actually, she hated being late to family dinner more than anything else, if she were being honest; Rumple had done so much for her. No one else in the town had, with the exception of her father, so she found she didnāt care if they were left waiting on her. If they cared for her more than as an answer to their latest riddle or the way to the Dark One, perhaps she would care more.
But this was family dinner, and she was supposed to cook, so she felt a bit of guilt as she hurried into the house. However, the house wasnāt silent as she walked in, or dark as she had expected. The lights were on, bringing cheer into the otherwise gloomy evening - the skies were overcast with the threat of rain, and something about the air just felt foreboding. The house was warm and Belle heard soft music coming from the kitchen.
Rumple was cooking; she knew that from the moment she heard the music and saw the lights. A sigh of relief escaped her lips. Of course she didnāt think heād be angry over something like this - once upon a time she would have, in the very earliest days of their relationship, when she didnāt know him. But now, she hadnāt been worried about his anger; her guilt had all come from her own expectations for herself. But Rumple had started dinner, and so she didnāt have to rush. She kicked off her heels with the usual sensation of freedom. She loved the height of her heels but her feet always appreciated the moment she was barefoot again. With that done, she made her way into the kitchen.
Rumple was at the stove, stirring a pot of what smelled like potato soup. Gideon sat in a high chair nearby, tiny hands pounding on the tray as a laugh bubbled out of his mouth. Rumple was entertaining their son, making cutlery dance in the air in front of his face - spoons, Belle was glad to see, even if she knew Rumple would never let anything happen to Gideon. Rumple was smiling as well and Belleās heart fluttered at the sight. She did so love her boys, and the smiles on both of their faces. Gideon burbled something happily and Rumple laughed - such a free, joyful sound that Belle couldnāt help but join in. Rumple turned in surprise and Belle covered her mouth. āIām sorry. I didnāt mean to startle you.ā He waved her off and turned back to the soup and Belle thought, not for the first time, how much she loved to hear him laugh.
~~~~~
Laughter interrupted the otherwise quiet air in the house and Belle turned with an indulgent smile. She really had intended on finishing the biography on her lap, but found it hard to focus at the moment. It wasnāt the noise that bothered her; the boys were being rather quiet for the most part. No, her own thoughts had kept her from fully losing herself in the book, and Belle found she didnāt care very much. It was a good biography, but she had plenty of time to read it later. At the moment, she was far more interested in seeing what Rumple and Gideon were up to than anything else, so she set the book aside and wandered through the house until she spotted them.
They were on the floor, Rumple sitting in front of Gideon, who was sprawled on his belly. His little hands were curled firmly around a soft toy that he was pounding against the floor. Though his back was to her, Belle could see the ease in every line of Rumpleās body and his laughter rang out over everything else. Perhaps she had missed the thing that was so funny but Belle found herself smiling just from listening to her husband. He deserved this. Having lost so much and endured so much in his long lifetime, he deserved a chance at happiness with his son. They had a rough path to this moment but it was worth it - all the fighting and pain and separation seemed to fade now that they were together and had their son.
Walking over to him, Belle sat beside Rumple and tucked her arm through his, reaching out to smooth Gideonās downy hair with the other hand. He babbled and Rumple laughed again, and Belle let out a contented sigh.

(12) Happy Sunnderday! I combined the two to give you a wee break, and also cause I followed your example and took a crazy long all day nap on Saturday. Glorious. Them animals got it right with this hibernation thing.Hope you're feeling better! Kids can definitely become little plague monsters this time of year, but then so are moist of my co-workers. Can I just say how happy I am to get to talk to my giftee? Some of the times I've done this ...
(13) ...exchange theres barely a word spoken. So you rock :3 I'm workin on your prompt tonight btw, two more days and you get it! On that note I'd better scat, lest I be up all night...I'll leave with just one query, that of "How did you come to Be a Rumbelle fan? What got your attention first?" (ć„ļ½”āāæāæāļ½”)ć„ šRSSantaš
Itās just as well, because I was in and out of the house yesterday too (someday I hope Iāll have a calm, quiet life again!). I hope you enjoyed your nap! Theyāre the highlight of my days now, although I havenāt got one (aside from when I was sick) for a week now, I think. I am feeling pretty good now though, and hopefully my immune system got its workout and will stay strong now. Awwww, well Iāve really enjoyed talking to you as well! I know it can be hard sometimes, but your messages were always really easy to reply to! Iām so excited, and good luck as you finish it up! If I remember right, I was a huge fan of Rumple from the moment I saw him - I watched the first season after it was aired, and it all sort of blurred together. But I do remember being fascinated by Rumple, and I adored Belle when she came into it as well. It was such a refreshing telling of Beauty and the Beast, and filled with such iconic moments.
By the by, last week of RSS I always like to do a message a day, so heres a Thursday! Ready for an inbox explosion? :) Here we go! QUeenie yes. Luna absolutely!! And Switzerland is the epitome of winter wonderland and on my list too...I want to go fall down a hill on a snowboard there someday!*Goals* I guess if you were a big Hermione fan for her bookluv- Belle became an automatic favorite too? Did you grow up with the Disney fairytails more or the book versions? ā„RSSanta! (10)
Santa! Hereās my second reply of the day (delayed because I was running errands in between). But I LOVE inbox explosions! Queenie and Luna are amazing. I just think it would be amazing to see the scenery, and maybe try skiing. Obviously thatās something I donāt have any experience with! Iād probably end up falling. Yes, I identified a lot with Hermione because of her bookishness, but I actually didnāt like BATB when I was a kid. (I got sick in the middle of the movie once when I was five or six, so in my childish logic, I equated the sickness with the movie and didnāt watch it again until I was in college!) I grew up with the Disney versions more than anything, although I did start to like the retellings of fairy tales as I got older. I still have a fondness for those.
And in response to this:
Wow, the weenest of weens indeed...I know those feels of impending holidays, and how much I want them to just hurry up impend already! I think i'll follow your example and go see F.B. again to help make the wait more bearable...I'd love to do a whole HP marathon, but seeing Alan Rickman and knowing he's gone is still a bit heartbreaking, and makes me want to grab Snape through the screen and hug him all the more ?_? I've a thing for long haired dark magic using tortured souls and the actors...
My students are the tiniest and I love them (I mean, not the actual tiniest because thereās always kindergarten or first graders). I think they gave me whatever bug has knocked me out for the last few weeks though, and I do not appreciate that. My sister and I are going to see it again when I visit her over Christmas! So Iām holding off for my next viewing until then, but Iāve seen it four times already, just because I can. Oh I canāt imagine how sad that would be! I want to have a marathon too but that will make it so hard. I donāt care much for Snape as a character but I do love how well Alan Rickman portrayed him.
*Santa pops in to send some Monday hearts, because its Monday and we all need extra hearts* š RSSš
Santa, Iām going to first apologize because I caught a cold last week and it just completely knocked me out. I went to bed at like, 8:30 three nights last week and Iām stillĀ recovering. So Iām pretty sure I forgot to reply to a message from you that I got on . . . Friday? Or Saturday maybe. Iām not sure. Thank you for the Monday hearts! My Monday is actually really nice this week, aside from recovering from the cold. I hope yours was too!
Oh and also, I think tumblr might have eaten an ask somewhere in there? Because I had this in my inbox:
...who play them it seems: ĀÆ\_( ā 3 ā )_/ĀÆ So who is your fav from the original HP? Whos the fav in FB? Anddd where's your ideal snowy vacation spot and accccctivity? *RSSantaHugs!(ć¤āēā)ć¤* (Santa also hopes you had a good week and will not take another 7 dayssss to answer again lol)
But it seems like itās continuing on from something and I donāt have the other part. Hereās the answers for these questions though! My favorite from the original HP would probably be Hermione because I identified with her a lot when I first read the books, although I also grew to love Luna Lovegood as well. Hermione is just a great character though, and I will always love her. My favorite from FB is definitely Queenie! I adored her from the moment I saw her on screen and sheās actually my phone background right now! My ideal snowy vacation spot would probably be . . . . Switzerland, if Iām going for somewhere like really big, and if I were going somewhere closer to home, maybe somewhere in Colorado. Activity would probably be sledding or building a snowman unless you count reading by a fireplace!Ā
Happy last day of Novememburrr! Welp, seeing as how I'm swimming in the stuff, I feel I am highly qualified to create you a fictional Rumbelle snow world and you can stay perfectly warm and dry :D As for Potterworld, I absolutely adored it even though It took me a bit longer to sit my butt down and get started reading, but thats okay because it meant I had more content to binge! I ADORE the idea of magical worlds hidden within normal ones, and the new film didnae disappoint...šRSSanta
No problem Dearie! Santa is a patiant Santa! Students you say, what magical wizardry topic to you impart upon the weens? or teens?
Iām answering both of these on one, to simplify everything!
I am so excitedĀ for what you come up with!! Iām going to discuss a venture to snow country with my friends, for later this winter, but thatās about everything I want lol.Ā
Oh man, the books were definitely my life. But the movies are so amazing as well! Theyāre one of the movie franchises that I actually like, you know? And especiallyĀ Fantastic Beasts. I could watch it every day, i think (and honestly, Iām planning to go see it for the fourth time this weekend because Iām hormonal and tired this week, so I want to treat myself.)
Yes, my tiny students! Iām a second grade teacher, so I get to impart pretty much everything to them. I love teaching, and love my students, but itās so close to Christmas break that theyāre allĀ wound up and fighting with each other. Iām basically in survival mode until the 22nd, which is when Christmas break starts.

Santa, I just wanted to let you know that I saw your message but I am too tired to reply to it properly tonight (it was just such a long day with my students). Iāll reply tomorrow though!
SAND ANGELS AND CHRISTMAS CACTUSESES! *ahem* So your winter wonderland prompt makes a wee bit more sence to me now (i mean beyond the obvious haha...if you want me to send some snow in the Post, I'd be more than happy to do so :D And we're in agreement about pirates then. Excellent. I also noticed your icon, dare I assume you are a fan of the world of Potter, witches and wizardry? and have you seen the new film? šRSSsssssssssssssssssssssssantaš
hahahah, yes! It had a two-fold inspiration: first, my favorite Christmas song, and second, my desire to live vicariously through fic. Although we can go up north and see snow, and I discovered I donāt like it that much, and I donāt think Iād like it at all for the long term.Ā
Oh my word, Harry Potter is one of my oldestĀ fandoms - I grew up reading the books (I got the first one as a Christmas present when I was in third grade, I think) and I was so excited for the new movie - and then it was even better than I hoped! Are you also a Potter fan? (I legitimately was going to change my URL and then remembered itās RSS so I canāt, but I probably will once the exchange happens.)
And I'm even later at responding!! Because Stupid real life derps and cold weather makes me incredibly sleepy...but I'm always sleepy anyways. I have snow now too, are you somewhere that gets snow? As for your prompt, I am also anti-hook (am I EVER) and Pro-floof so I can certainly absolutely unequivocally promise you NO pirates. They've all been vaporized off the face of the earth and their remains dustpanned into some black hole, and that black hole devoured by another black hole :D šRSSanta!
Hey Santa! Donāt feel bad; I know my own life is super crazy right now, and I can sympathize with being sleepy as I, too, am always sleepy (and right now Iām not being super great at adulting and going to bed when I should). Ahhhhhhh thatās a relief! I used to love pirates and theyāve been someone spoiled for me now, and itās nice to think that theyāve been vaporized and sent to a black hole and then an other black hole.
Oh, and we donāt actually get snow where I live! The weather was still really crazy warm like, three weeks ago. Just this past week itās finally gotten cold enough that I needed to wear something with real sleeves. Perks of living in the desert though - I really hate being cold.
