Gen One, Day Seventy-Four

As the routine starting growing to a close, Eris quickly excused herself from Geoffrey to go get all three of them something to drink. She was beaming with pride and it was made even greater when she got to the bar and overhead the conversation about her Dad. 

“This guy’s great, isn’t he?” 

“He’s gonna win for sure. Haven’t heard the crowd laugh this hard all night.” 

Eris grinned ear to ear, ordered her drink and stood there with her lips twisted like she was trying to hold back what she wanted to say. After a moment, she couldn’t anymore. “That’s my Dad up there,” she told the crowd at the bar and they all perked up, telling her how great he was, what a good job he was doing, where did he get his material, etc. She tried to entertain the questions as much as she could, getting a few laughs herself and it felt good, making comedians laugh.

Gen One, Day Seventy-Four

While Charlie was sick, Johnny and Robyn had decided they were going to do their best to make sure Eris didn’t contract mono somehow. Even one slip up and things could go south. So for a little bit, they rented a motel room downtown and the two of them enjoyed the city. Both Robyn and Charlie had insisted that it wasn’t abandoning him, like Eris proclaimed it was. It took Charlie begging Eris to do it to get her to go. 

Once she did, she found that she loved the downtown. Especially the nightlife. While they were going to be in town, a comedy competition was going to be held and knowing her Dad’s past with standup comedy, she had insisted on him going to compete. 

Johnny was reluctant at first. Out of practice except for a few routines here and there, but Eris insisted. And it made him bust out some of his old routines, fix them up with her help in practicing, and once the competition rolled around, they headed out to the main square where all of the competitors had gathered.

Luckily, Robyn didn’t let her child suffer alone. Whenever Charlie started feeling upset because he didn’t seem to be getting better, she’d remind him that this, too, shall pass. It was enough to make him smile and laugh and she spent a lot of time in his room making sure he was on a good medication routine, that he woke up to get something to eat, and that they played plenty of video games when he was feeling up to it. 

Robyn hated seeing Charlie so sick. It was devastating, being a Mom and unable to help your kid feel better immediately. Two weeks was a long time to be out of school, but luckily Harvey was able to bring him some homework and notes from the teachers so he wouldn’t be held back a grade.

As Charlie started feeling better and he got the all clear from the doctor to return to school, Robyn came into his room, putting her hand on his forehead just to double check herself that he wasn’t running a fever. The rashes had cleared up, though the exhaustion was still there and probably would be for a good while. He’d missed several basketball games, which he’d been devastated about, but the coach had insisted it wasn’t a big deal. They’d get him back up to speed and help ease him back in to being a part of the team. 

“Love you, kiddo,” Robyn whispered to her son while he was sleeping, glad to see that he was at least on the mend. 

“Love you too, Mom,” came the unexpected response and she smiled when Charlie poked open one eye to give her a smirk back. She leaned in to kiss his forehead, not apologizing for the comfort and Charlie didn’t look mad about it at all. He couldn’t have made it through this without her.
