So, I had begun posting these by the day, but forgot ( as I was posting them on guild forums as well. So here is Thael's full 30 day questions. After the break.
1.) Describe your character’s relationship with their mother or their father, or both. Was it good? Bad? Were they spoiled rotten, ignored? Do they still get along now, or no?
Thaelis’ relationship with his parents was a good one, if not strict. They tried to be fair with all their children, and give them such an upbringing as would be most beneficial to them.
Thus, they taught them everything they could, from fighting to healing, morals, and at least one kind of trade skill. His parents, nobility that they were, did not believe in idle hands that wanted to be waited on. They believed in doing for yourself and doing for others.
Even so, his parents were not so strict that their children had no freedom, and they did everything they could for their children.
Thaelis still keeps in contact with his parents, who do not live far from Silvermoon, and he visits them when he can.
2.) What are your characters most prominent physical features?
Thael's most prominent feature many would notice right away would be his height - he's fairly tall, even for an elf, at around six and a half feet tall. On closer examination, though, others might say his most prominent features are his eyes or his smile, both being very expressive, whether the knight likes to admit it or not.
There is also his hair. Its a coppery color, and he tends to keep it a bit long, just past his shoulders. Its probably his biggest giveaway that he's either frustrated / agitated, or nervous.
3.) Name one scar your character has, and tell us where it came from. If they don’t have any, is there a reason?
There is one that is very prominent - its a scar - a long cut-wound from a bladed weapon, with almost vein-like scars stretching out form it- right near his heart from a stab wound. He does have others, of course, but this one would be the easiest to pick out whenever the knight might happen to be shirtless.
Some years ago, Eriene and Thaelis were training an adept to the Order. Thaelis was working with her in using the Light offensively in attacks. After showing her how to use this particular move, the girl attempted to mimic the attack.
However, something went wrong when she called the Light to her, and the magic corrupted - she turned on Thaelis, sending the magic through her sword, and stabbing him before he realized just what had happened.
Luckily, one of the Academy professors had been nearby, and it was fortunate enough that two Shu'halo associates were also nearby, and managed to keep him from death. It was a few days before anyone realized that there was still corrupt magic within him, but fortunately enough, it was fixed easily.
Even so, to this day, the scar remains - something of a reminder of the delicate balance many walk with magic, no matter its source.
4.) How vain is your character? Do they find themselves attractive?Â
Thael is just vain enough to take some care with his looks - he believes in being presentable, as your image reflects your station, rank, and those you serve with. A poor state of hygiene looks bad, and generally makes you feel worse. (So, he has some upkeep of his hair, obviously, and likes to be clean. This in no way means that he goes to terrible extremes of odd, uh...preening customs.)
As to being attractive - well. Thael figures there must be SOMETHING attractive, as he does get hit on every now and then. But he's far from the peacock believing he's the best looking guy around.
5.) What’s your character’s ranking on the Kinsey Scale?Â
Thaelis registers at a 0 to 1 on the Scale. I give the o, because he has, thus far, always been attracted to women. I give the 1 because, well, you never know who you're going to meet, and they may change your mind.
With that said, Thael's love life is terribly tragic, but that is a story for some other day.
6.) Describe your character’s happiest memory.Â
Thael remembers the day his baby sister was born rather vividly. There is a gap of 20 years of so in their age, but still - seeing the baby, he promised to love and protect her always.
Another happy day was when he finished his training and was inducted into the priesthood - it was something he had trained for, through his mother, all his life. So it was something that had both been expected ( by his parents) and wanted (by him) for a long time. Even so, when he made the decision to become a Blood Knight, he did not look back.
So, from there, another happy memory is, of course, passing his trials and becoming a Knight, and then later a Knight-Master.
7.) Is there one event or happening your character would like to erase from their past? Why?Â
For all the things that have happened in Thael's life, there might be a few particular things he'd wish away if he could. Even so the one he might wish to erase the most would be event that killed his older sister - when Arthas and the Scourge attacked Silvermoon.
Even while she had been near grown by the time Thaelis was a child, he looked up to her and respected her. They were very close during his childhood, and she was one of his closest confidant as he grew older. She had hoped he might take up a sword rather than the cloth as their mother wished - sometimes he wonders what would have happened is she was still alive today.
Every year during the Day of the Dead, he goes and leaves a wreath of forget-me-nots at her headstone, rather than the traditional marigolds.
8.) Day of Favorites! What’s your character’s favorite ice cream flavor? Color? Song? Flower? Weapon? Etc?
Thael likes strawberry ice cream. He likes blues, silvers, and black (okay, its a bit of vanity; black shows off his hair really nicely.).Â
His preferred weapon style is a one-handed weapon and shield. There are certain circumstances where he prefers a larger two handed weapon.
Thael's preferred alcoholic drink is bourbon, wine, and lately he's taken a liking to the Ambrosia stuff he can't remember the first half of the name to.
He likes smithing and generally working with his hands.
9.) Who does your character trust?
Thaelis tends to be careful on where he puts his trust - but, then, he has some varying degrees of trust. There is the trust he puts in the unit he serves with to watch his back as he watches theirs, to fight side-by-side. This is the trust he has for the Phoenix Guard as a whole.
The trust he puts in his friends is something of a 'if he trusts you, he probably trusts you completely', as friendship tends to require opening up bits of yourself that you otherwise don't want to show anyone else - it means they know the good, and the bad, and for some reason have chosen to stick with him. This is the trust he has given to the Duskbane twins - Eriene, as his knight-partner, and Darcaine, as a brother-in-arms. Over time, he has come to also give this trust to Xynrael. His trust in Wyleth was shaken a bit, but he counts him among his friends.
There is also the trust he puts in those who come to him to learn. He trusts them to listen, and take to heart what they are there to learn, and not abuse what they have learned from him - and, hopefully, one day pass on what they learned from him.
10.) Can you define a turning point in your character’s life? Multiples are acceptable.
The earliest turning point for Thael would have been discovering his talent for using the Light. His mother, a devoted Priestess, saw to it that Thaelis was guided in its use for healing. This lead into him going into the priesthood.
The next turning point was the Scourge attack on Silvermoon - this lead to the death of his sister, which in turn compelled him to give up being a priest, and take up a sword and shield to join the Blood Knights.
Meeting Eriene Duskbane has lead to one of his closest and dearest friends, which also eventually lead to meeting Wyleth, Darcaine, and Xynrael, AS WELL as joining the Academy's Red Brigade. After Eriene became Captain of the Brigade, Thael ended up as her second-in-command. They all went to Netherstorm for a time, and then returned and all ended up in the Phoenix Guard - with Eriene become Captain, and then Thaelis and Wyleth being promoted not long after. The years sort of lead to something of a 'where you can find one, you usually find the rest.'
