I Nearly Died Trying to Save a Dog. A Story of A Shiba Inu, Asthma, Stupidity, and Over Exaggeration for Dramatic Effect.
True Story! Happened last night.
I was driving home with the boyfriend and we see a dog jump out of the car infront of us. It's a Shiba Inu.
*Super Important Info* I Love Dogs. A lot. I do not have a lot of experience with them, although in the three years I've had my dog, I've become very good with the neighborhood dogs as well. (This will factor in later)
So I have my boyfriend pull over because there is a dog in the middle of the road and we must help. I get out of the car and try (along with a few other good people) to steer the dog back to a person and out of harm's way. It looks like it's coming to me buuuut no. This little fuzzball decides to start walking away from all of us faster, and faster till it's running then I'm running after a dog.
*More SUPER important info* I have not-well-controlled asthma. Normally this is not an issue because I have an emergency inhaler and work out in controlled environment buuuuuut back to the story.
So I'm running and I get an asthma attack, which I ignore because a dog is in danger, but, by the time myself and the other good people catch this pup, and get it back to it's owner ( about 1/3 mile away from where we started) I realize my chest is in immense pain. I can breath ok. But so much pain.
And I taste blood.
(and I left my phone in my boyfriend car when I ran off.)
Luckily I have no problem finding my way back to my boyfriend. Of course he's worried af cause I ran off after a strange dog without my phone. But ohhhhh. Ohhhhh.
Oh the pain in my chest.
Now my mom has been in the medical field for 40 some odd years. CNA, Med Tech, and now ER secretary. She knows her medical shit, and since this is the usa, there isn't any hotline to call to fine out if you're in a medical emergency or not.
All I knew that a hospital visit would be expensive, long, probably make me miss work the next day, and not a good idea during covid.
And I knew I was in so much pain. The pain was right on the chest bone. Directly center of my chest.
Oh, and tasting blood. (Did I mention that?)
But my mom doesn't pick up the phone for more than an hour.
Now no slight to my mom. I am 23, not a kid I don't live with her, but damnit if that wasn't the scariest hour ever.
I had no idea what was going on. Were my lungs bleeding? Was it a heart attack? Do I need medical attention? Idk!
Queue anxiety mixed adrenaline and pain. My dad's at least there to help me out and calm down the anxiety. I take my emergency inhaler because that was kinda the only logical thing.
And I wait, and calm down. Or try to.
As you can see, I am not dead! Didn't even need a doctor's visit! Instead my mom got back to me and turnt out it was not blood that I was tasting, just a chemical reaction from the hyperventilation.
I was thoroughly explained to, as to why one should not chase after random animals, no matter how much the animals need saving.
All in all it was an experience.
But the doggy is safe, so I consider it a success!
