There’s something about FMA that didn’t trigger the rush of fics that it did with Naruto, and Bleach... Similar to atla in some ways maybe?

But! I still have recs!

I’ve prioritized longfics in this list, because that’s my personal bias.

If you check it out you can probably find more. While I’ve been digging up links I spotted several good length fics that I haven’t seen before that I need to check out. Just try and find fics with at least a 1:10 kudos to hits ratio or better. That’s what I do anyway.

Almost anything by metisket, whose FMA fics are largely gen.

I especially rec “No Rest for the Wicked”, “Cause for Concern” and the “demon alchemist series”

Foul Depths is a good whump series which involves more realistic withdrawal symptoms than is usually found in fandom.

Toy Soldier is really good one where Ed navigates his position as a really really young member of the military and what that means to enemies of the state AND the rest of the army.

An Excerpt from 'Road to Revolution: the Life and Times of Roy Mustang' is a dream come true in that I freaking love this kind of fic

Number Twenty-Eight by sevlow. This fic has some HEAVY stuff, and being written in 2008 it doesn’t have elaborate tagging that ao3 has. It was one of the first FMA fanfics I ever read, and it has a damn special place in my heart. (It also inspired a plot point in AYSTIAGI but that’s neither here nor there) Sevlow has some other damn good Mustang-centric fics as well. Good stuff

Abstention by Asidian. It’s good? It’s really really good. Cold weather plus reduced rations and also why IS Ed always so so hungry? Can’t speak to Asidian’s other works, some of them are shippy :/

The Next Best Thing by Miskcat is some good parental Roy stuff.

Bookwrm389 also has some really good Parental Roy stuff including Your Son, Gold From Lead, and Tempest

Loyal Dogs by xCrimsonxBlackxBloodx is a really competently written story where Ed gets ordered to war. I say ‘competently’ but please believe I’m not trying to damn it with faint praise. The author knows about war stuff and it shows. I’m quite fond of it, and oh man I need to catch up ok...
