Etaïnn and her new vintage bike. Having had her folding bike stolen, she looked for a new one, second-hand.

She fell in love with its color. Free wheel, its frame repainted numerous times, could be a Cinelli, unless it was the bottom bracket . Equiped Campagnolo, handlebar Cinelli, wheels Mavic : she had the chance to randomly find in a 18 th

district antique shop, such a treasure for a tiny price.

She imagined the secret story of this bike that must have no doubt won a few races and gave it the nickname: Leroy.  She did not customized it and left it like that. She likes beautiful and functional objects.

Her pleasure : to ride alone. Like others do while walking, she day dreams better on the saddle, sometime takes big decisions, find song ideas. It is a new toy that allow her to discover another face of Paris. 

She loves speed. She recalls a feeling of power when she rides. It makes her feels a bit like “the third man” to quote her words, never trapped, and never hustled, taken by the idea of suddenly appearing with her bike out of nowhere when the least expected. 

In Berlin this last summer, she worked on the Grand Boucle, exhibit, « a critical and fresh looking study of racing bicycles from 1903 until 2009” (studio Mother Drucker & galerie Urban Spree). And she would like to organize a collective event about the bike culture, here, in Paris.  Her privileged moment : riding with music in her ears. She loves to ride while listening to music. Like me. I asked her what she is listening to at this time : “Rien” from La Chatte remixed by Caude Violante (Label Tsunami-Addiction).

Etaïnn et son nouveau vélo vintage. S’étant fait voler son vélo pliant, elle en cherchait un nouveau, d’occasion.

Elle est tombée amoureuse de sa couleur. Roue libre, son cadre, repeint plusieurs fois, pourrait être un Cinelli, à moins que ce ne soit le boîtier de pédalier. 

Équipé Campagnolo, cintre Cinelli, roues Mavic : elle a eu de la chance de trouver par pur hasard, dans une brocante du 18e, un tel trésor pour un prix microscopique. Elle s’est imaginée l’histoire (secrète) de ce vélo qui a sans doute gagné quelques belles courses, et lui a donné un petit nom : Leroy. 

Elle ne l’a pas customisé et l’a laissé tel quel. Elle aime bien l’idée des objets beaux et fonctionnels. 

  Son plaisir, rider seule. Comme d’autres en marchant, elle rêvasse mieux en selle, prend parfois de grandes décisions, trouve des idées de chansons. C’est son nouveau jouet, avec lequel elle redécouvre Paris autrement. 

  Elle aime la vitesse. Elle évoque la sensation de puissance quand elle roule. Elle se sent un peu comme “le troisième homme” pour reprendre ses mots, jamais piégée ni bousculée, séduite aussi par l’idée de surgir à vélo là où et quand on ne l’attend pas.

  À Berlin cet été, elle a travaillé sur l’exposition Grand Boucle, “a critical and fresh looking study of racing bicycles from 1903 until 2009” (studio Mother Drucker & galerie Urban Spree). Et aimerait organiser un événement collectif sur la culture du cycle, ici, à Paris.

  Son moment privilégié : rouler le casque sur les oreilles. Elle aime rider en musique.
