Childhood: they said the Douglas family were happy when a third child was born, a son they named Leonardo. they thought he would be like his siblings but it was not the same case. he tagged along with them in all the things they did and while they said he was an adorable child with bright eyes, he was quiet. too quiet some said but they blamed it on how just maybe he was too shy. the real reason though, he was afraid of the attention and having parents who showed him and his siblings off just made him want to recoil and hide. he excelled in his classes with high grades with the only comment from teachers being that he was silent all the time and never raised his hand. he did sports but only because he had to not because he wanted to. he preferred to stay at home and play video games or watch tv. they called him lazy for it but he never saw it that way. what most did not know though was that Leo is a wizard when it comes to electronics and computers, particularly coding and programming. it was his thing that he has always stuck by and always will. many don't think he is a nerd because of how lazy he is but he surprises people. he does just about whatever he wants. he's a bit of a mess, properly, but he doesn’t care much.

Adolescence: as he got older, Leo was seen as the lazy kid in the class more so than the nerd. he always sat in the back of the classroom, spending most of the time sleeping and then waking up when bell rang to head to next class. but looks can be deceiving, somehow he always passed his classes with good grades because he is an actual genius though he never was one to put his mind to things unless people made a bet he couldn't do things. even from a young age many could see he was bright but he just didn't like school. as he grew older and enter highschool he got into drugs, particularly weed was his choice and continues to be. his perception and laziness followed him up until high school graduation. for the most part, many have little to no idea who Leo actually is. he maintains a visage of complete control, laziness, defiance and indifference towards others, seeming to be a haughty and snappy kid. in actuality, he’s one of the more sensitive people out there — maybe the most sensitive. while his classmates were deciding what university to go to, Leo decided to see where life took him but his parents had other plans. they pulled some strings, donated alot of money, and he was said to attend boston university. it was a bore but Leo just shrugged it off as it was one less thing he had to worry about. he tried his hand at hacking during his last semester of high school, changing a grade for a friend, deleting email for someone who sent one on accident, etc. until he did something bold. he stole money from his father who never noticed. a calling was found and he never looked back.

Adulthood: Leo went to university as an computer science major until he decided to add a minor in education after he spent sometime tutoring and realized that he was good at it. he enjoyed science quite a bit his parents weren't exactly happy about his plan to become a teacher as they had hoped he would do something they wanted but he shrugged it off. they thought that maybe he would end up in some big tech company but he wanted an easy lifestyle. unbeknownst to them, he actually has like alot of money, mainly funded from what he's stolen. his hacker profile started off small and now as an adult is highly decorated with many things others may not like but those in the hacking word think is amazing. very famous online for it, even has a little calling card he leaves behind when he does something. Leo hides that side of him that people wouldn't think it could ever be this lazy kid. uses his hacking for good, well more like for his own good. definitely not afraid to use it to steal money from his father he loathes or other rich people that piss him off but sometimes only does it to help others.

Present Day: at 26, Leonardo has been working as a teacher for the past 3 years now. sometimes when not hacking or teaching, he is busy working on creating his indie video game it has yet to see the light of day but its his little side project. it started off as a cover story as to why he was always on his laptop but then decided to try his hand at it. he spends entirely too much time on computers. even on breaks at work and if anyone ever has questions about them or how to fix them, he's probably the guy you can go to (more than likely will tell you to turn it off and then turn it on). he works absurdly hard at his job, and has a tendency to break down if he feels like he’s disappointing his students or his sisters, or failing to keep up with anyone around him. he’s overwhelmingly concerned of what his siblings, maybe his parents though will never admit it, and friends think of him. outside of that, he’s a great friend, and when he’s not caught up with everything he focuses on—he’s always around to help anyone who needs it.

the alexanders are quite well-known in town and one of the oldest families in roseton since her ancestors settled in later half of the 1700s from italy. although they are quite wealthy, they have a reputation of being humble and generous. due to harper's father, dante alexander, being the owner of their michelin star italian restaurant business in rosetown, as well as many other establishments outside of roseton, and her mother amelia, being a well-known surgeon. despite the wealth they have amassed, they've never thought of leaving roseton. they are known to donate quite lot to their small town.

it was expected of harper to take over their italian restaurant, and it was something she was passionate about. cooking ran in her genes, and for harper, it was the time she has spent with her grandmother, who taught her how to cook and bake, and almost everything she knows today that allows her to successfully run their family restaurant. its one of the few things she's passionate of, so when the time came for her father to step down and hand the family business to harper, she was estatic.

the alexanders, while open-minded and not the typically wealthy family, still upheld much of their older familial values. they were expected to maintain their respected image in town, despite what went on behind closed doors, there were certain things that their grandparents expected out of harper's parents. nonetheless, this was a family filled with love and affections if not always so perfect.

⸻ valerie was born on a hot and chaotic august night. the hospital was strangely packed, personnel overworked and overtired, so when a nurse (after a 20+ hour shift) dropped the name tags of two babies that had been born almost at the same exact time next to each-other, no one batted an eye. It was easily fixed, no repercussions whatsoever and the babies were brought back to their parents without spending a second thought on the incident.

⸻ she had as much of a wonderful childhood as a kid could have: the douglass' were not only affluent but well-known in the small and charming roseton. alas, with the name and valerie's innate charm she was ready to make the world hers, to even have an ounce of control over her life when control was all her life lacked: the douglass' far from the perfect visions of responsibility valerie had once held them to were slowly but surely beginning to implode: distant and cold were the sentiments running wild through the family home in the very few days the father was around and not traveling for work, their mother leaving too the second he crossed the door for yet another trip with the children becoming eachother's companies.

⸻ upon graduation she applied to various universities and ultimately got accepted into almost every choice she made, choosing columbia as her alma mater and business as her line of studies as an ode to her family and it’s history even though she wasn’t passionate about her decision, living between new york and massachusetts. val spent her first year attempting to circumnavigate a major she despised and the expectations that relied on her as a douglass but ultimately decided to switch majors to journalism and at 23 years old she got her mba degree in journalism. it was around the time when valerie would meet who would one day become her spouse.

⸻ she began writing for an assortment of regional and independent papers and magazines; slowly but surely making a name for herself in a frustrating yet incredibly fulfilling industry. one of her works landed her an interview to the bbc so her and her partner made their very first trip together and although it was a disaster the two found a new-shared love: traveling. knowing as a freelance journalist she could work from anywhere in the world, the two decided to embark on a years-long trip around the globe, documenting each and every country they visited on video format and uploading it to youtube which ultimately led them (especially valerie) to become a "vlogger" and gaining a substantial and engaging follower base and ultimately the couple got married while on the road.

⸻ by twenty-eight and after several years living off of hotel bedrooms, the couple decided they needed some stability and thus packed their luggage one last time and moved back to roseton, valerie's hometown whom she missed dearly and two years after moving the marriage welcomed their first and ('till now) only child, willow to make their lives as perfect as they could be.

⸻ tragedy struck when valerie began feeling ill for a couple of weeks before landing in e.r, doctors doing every test possible to find the cause of her lethargy, pallor and overall sickness. after three weeks without answers spent going from the hospital to home, the results were in: pure red cell aplasia, a rare bone marrow disorder. the treatment involved getting various blood transfusions but when he family began getting tested, the results showed they weren’t compatible. the treatment continued with the help of other donors yet the doubt rose within the young mother: why wasn’t she compatible with anyone in her family?

⸻ once val was back on her feet (at least strong enough to continue with life as she knew it), the journalist decided to take a dna test; the response arrived two days later leaving her with more questions than answers when it was revealed to her that the douglass' weren’t related to her by blood. knowing everything she ever knew was a lie, val began to spiral down; barely keeping contact with her family as she was unsure of how to tell them their lives had been a lie, a hostile relationship staining the one relationship that had once meant the most to her with her spouse and even began affecting both her careers as a journalist and as a vlogger, using all her time to both care for her child and investigating what had gone wrong during that july night instead.

the de luca family wasn't always a very happy one. at least, during aurora's childhood she can recall them being a decently gleeful household. while she had always struggled with being rather introverted, closed off, and eccentric, nothing was ever terrible at home. well, until her father decided to cheat on their mother, running off with his secretary to start a new life with her.

this completely destroyed their mother, heartbroken over her crumbling marriage. she tried her hardest to stay strong for her children, but her demons got the best of her. she'd begin to become dependent on narcotics to try to numb her pain from everything she went through. this wasn't easy on aurora either, leaning on her older brother christian to try to handle it.

her mom has been in and out of rehab throughout the years, struggling with keeping clean even as aurora entered adulthood. she's always tried to not resent her mom for it, knowing that it was their father to blame for their family becoming like this.

after rora graduated from high school, she decided to move to new york to persue a degree in culinary arts. being in the kitchen had always been a sort of comfort for her, something that she became quite good at. she graduated with a bachelors degree in culinary arts, working as a sous chef for a high end restaurant until she was roughly twenty two.

deciding to pivot her career plans a bit, she moved to roseton, ma to become clother to her brother christian. aurora traded in her fine dining apron for a baking apron, taking over ownership for one of the local bakeries in downtown roseton.

brief history:

mateo grew up in roseton to a really dysfunctional family that lead to his older sister ditching town and never being heard from again. that's basically the catalyst for his 'fuck you' attitude to the world. mateo's learned to take care of things himself after his family blew apart. he's stuck around in their family home in rose lane even after they all left, one by one. he got into being a mechanic because he's good with his hands and he doesn't really have to think about it too hard. it doesn't require too much customer service talk either. car broken. car fixed. easy peasy. he's usually pretty reliable except for the one night he drank a little too much and something happened. luckily, there were no witnesses. it happened two years ago and people still haven't managed to figure out what happened. mateo's taking that secret to the grave.

ezgi is the youngest of the özbilen children. she was born and raised in izmir, turkey. her dad is a well-known doctor and the owner of a major hospital, while her mother owns several boutiques and often attends social events to "keep her status."

because their parents were always busy, she and her older sister were mostly raised by nannies and household staff. ezgi often felt more connected to them than her own parents, who were distant and unavailable.

in high school, ezgi struggled. she faced bullying and started acting out to get her parents' attention. she regularly got in trouble at school and ended up in detention frequently. the first time it happened, her mother came to pick her up, upset but present, which meant everything to ezgi. however, it never happened again. after that, her parents always sent someone else to fetch her. ezgi spent hours in detention with the faint hope her parents might show up, but they never did.

her grades started to drop, as she focused solely on her favorite subject: art. painting and sculpting became her way to escape the pressures of her home life and the judgment of her peers.

in a desperate move, she hacked the school’s system, which wasn't something new and difficult for her to do so at all. improving her grades. she knew it would get her into more trouble if caught, but she was running out of ways to keep up.

after high school, ezgi was pressured into college. her parents insisted she study something in the medical field to follow in the family’s footsteps, but ezgi longed to pursue art.

her older sister, who had chosen a more conventional path, was always praised by their parents. ezgi constantly felt like she would never be good enough for their parents.

during college, ezgi grew as an artist. she painted on canvases and improved her skills. her art teacher encouraged her to pursue her talent, but when she told her parents she wanted to focus on art, they were furious.

one night, her father destroyed her work. he threw away her supplies and years' worth of paintings, calling it a "waste of time." in response, she created a large spray-painted mural in the city an emotional statement against her parents. the next morning her painting appeared on the news and ended up being a trending topic on social media. everyone was wondering who made the painting that screamed out so many emotions. she was so surprised by everyone’s reaction (good and bad ones) because so many people could relate to her painting. this encouraged her to make an anonymous instagram account because she knew that if anyone would find out it was her behind all the meaningful paintings; her parents would do everything in their power again to make her stop what she loved to so much. besides, she found the idea of an anonymous message to the world more meaningful than people knowing who made it.

ezgi is really afraid of the idea of working in a hospital already; she feels it's too much responsibility and honestly believes she’d never be good at healing or helping someone. that’s exactly why she never wanted to work in a hospital.

college didn’t go smoothly. despite her love for art, her grades dropped again. this time, hacking wasn’t an option, and her parents, frustrated and disappointed, sent her to a school in the netherlands to "get her on track."

living abroad was lonely, but it gave her independence. she eventually graduated after three years, getting her diploma just to make her parents happy.

but instead of returning to turkey, ezgi chose to move to roseton to start over. she arrived five years ago, ready to live life on her own terms and follow her creative passions. she told her parents she got an offer to work at one of the biggest hospitals, just to get them off her back.

she now works as a bartender at roseton revenge and she truly loves her job, she hasn’t spoken to her parents in years and has limited contact with her sister.

Born in Arlington Virigina, Jia was the youngest of three and the first daughter to the Zhangs. She had always been a smiley baby and her mother would call her angel from then on, always saying it was easier with her than her brothers but in reality there wasn't much of a difference between the three siblings, and that never really changed. Joined at the hip, they enjoyed almost a decade as a family of five in Arlington. Things change though, Mr. Zhang got a job offer working at the Mayor's office in Roseton and since her mother was a nurse and could get a job at the local hospital they moved up the coast when Jia was only ten years old.

For the most part the last 14 years had been uneventful until her father was accused of a hit and run that tragically led to the death of one of Jia's classmates, when first interviewed she said she couldn't remember what had happened on the night in question, not able to maintain her father's claim that he was helping her with statistics homework, but randomly a month before the case was set to go to trail, she recanted her statement, instead forcefully stating that her dad was with the family all night, no matter if he had come home so late in the night that everyone but Jia was asleep, the young girl would often stay up late revising her homework and playing old movies on the family t.v set.

Born to a particularly dangerous family, Benito's life was always monitored and controlled. Discipline ran through him like a burning fire, never letting him derail from the legacy he was meant to one day lead. But, while his parents ruled with an iron fist, there was no shortage of love and kindness in his upbringing. To the world Mr. and Mrs. Robles may have been ruthless monsters, but at home they were everything a child could ask for. He was the first of his litter, with a younger sister and baby brother following after he had turned four. Their lives, though unorthodox to outsiders, was perfect for their lot. While he hid, screaming and loud noises surrounded his home. Echoing down the hallways and through the pipes. It felt like hours before he emerged again, and when he did the bodies of his parents and siblings were left adorning the cool marble floor of their home. That night he promised them revenge, and did everything in his power to ensure he got exactly that. The days of sorrow turned to years of obsession. By the time he turned twenty, Benny had gained enough information on the people behind the hit to hide within their very ranks. It took longer than he had expected, but his promise to make them pay never ceased. Before long, a massacre of his enemies was taking place and no one was the wiser on his involvement.

When you live a life constantly looking over your shoulders, and distrusting the very people you surround yourself, it's hard to find peace. Harder to entertain a clean way of life when you know the dangers that lurk just shy of it's reach. Benito had every plan to leave the life of crime behind, to start fresh somewhere new, but his brain was tainted with dark intent. He loved the simplicity of money that came his way, and while he was more than well off on his family's inheritance alone, there was that element of thirst that never led up. Sure, he could give up and find a normal 9-5, but why bother when he could it all? Moving to Roseton was almost obvious once his mission was done. His family owned properly in the town already, and he would get to surround himself with the birth place of his mother. Learn where they came from, and the type of people that they were beyond their lives in Nevada. On his years of revenge, Benito hadn't noticed the memories dissipate. Little by little, all that he knew of his family was vague. They were loving, and loved him very much, but any meaningful defining traits of their person evaded him. If it weren't for all the albums of pictures, he wasn't sure if he'd remember their face. So coming to Roseton alleviated his ache. It made him feel closer to his family, even if just to be surrounded by the bit of goodness they provided the town. A generosity that Benito continued in his presence. Beyond their memory, Benny brought a bit of Vegas with him. Given the town an establishment to rival many from his old home. Dancers, and drinks, and an ambiance unmatched by the other bars or even clubs that surrounded it. It also served to provide him with a stage to dominate whenever he felt worst for wear. Music had always been a calming presence for him, and while the club served more purposes than he cared to address, every weekend he spent hours on stage working his way through the instruments.
