Chapter 2 of "Quit." is out! π¬
An Archive of Our Own, a project of the Organization for Transformative Works
π° β Chapter Summary:
As the months pass, Dimitri wavers, so Clive starts to wear Claire's perfume in his presence in order to get the scientist working again. However, the scent is eventually covered by the smoke from Dimitri's cigarettes, thus causing Clive's control to slip away once more. In a bid to regain the control he once held, Clive tries to convince the scientist to quit smoking with a careful choice of words.

βJust Like the Eels (my Climitri fanfic) spoilers
I really like how I set Dimitri's flirtation up.....
In the middle of the fic, Clive says: "Younger people can like older things too."
And then near the end of the fic, Dimitri turns it back on him:
I was kind of freaking out when I wrote this part. Haha.

The beginning of the new fic I've been working on:
βThere you are,β Clive exclaimed as he burst into Pepperβs Noodle Palace. Both his voice and the slam of the doors were drowned out by the dramatic symphony which blasted from the restaurant's record player. With one harsh click he pressed pause and made his way to the only table which was occupied.
βI could hear that from the bazaar.β
βOh it was just getting to the good partβ¦β Dimitri brought a gathering of noodles to his mouth with trembling chopsticks and sighed. βWhat did you need?β
Ignoring the question, the young man pulled out the chair opposite Dimitri, scraping its skeletal, hongmu legs on tiles which, despite only being laid 3 years prior, were already rife with chips and cracks. The screech from the friction vibrated all the crumbs which littered the floor and shot a prickly itch through the scientist's skin.
βIt's good to see you eating. I was beginning to get worried.β
βI do eat, Clive! Iββ
Clive gave him a questioning look as he sat.
The older manβs hunch and slight tremor were enough to signal that in his 4-day rush to finalise the blueprints for the time machine, Dimitri had not consumed a single thing other than his beloved instant coffee and the celebratory bottle of champagne they had shared over the schematicsβ completion.
β...Nevermind. I suppose you have a point. Iβll repeat my question, what did you need?β
βFunnily enough, I wanted you to eat.β Clive ran his fingers through his fringe, straightening the dirty-blond bird's nest of strands which now glimmered a fringe flower red under the glow of the palaceβs paper lanterns. Unknowingly, he missed a strand. βBut it appears that's been taken care of. Alcohol isn't exactly the most nutritious provision.β
There were only a handful of noodles left in Dimitriβs broth. Remaining silent, he fished them out with wooden chopsticks, making careful sure to avoid the jellied eel chunks which bobbed just below the waterline. As he finished the noodles, his soft slurps filled the silence left by the paused record and the absence of the restaurant's usual patrons.
βWhereβs your entourage? I thought they loved the dim sum here,β Clive asked.

I think Dimitri views Clive as a sun, when in reality he's more akin to a black hole. But maybe Dimitri knows this and chooses to feign ignorance out of fear of losing someone else he holds dear.
Dimitri decides to grow out a moustache for his Dr Stahngun persona, and Clive doesn't really care; it's just facial hair, whatever.
But as the weeks go by, whenever they kiss, the intensity of the sharp jabs from its silver bristles increases, and so does Clive's hatred for it.
He demands for Dimitri to shave it, making claims like 'it doesn't suit your face!' and 'it's ugly!' even though he thinks quite the opposite.
He can't admit that his craving to kiss the scientist for longer stretches without his upper lip being attacked is the real reason he wants it gone.
In the book Childhood's End by Arthur C. Clarke, there's a little snippet I that thought was kinda Climitri coded:
"To his surprise and mild consternation, for he was not a sentimental man, he discovered that his farewell was beginning to affect him. He had grown to like Jan during the weeks they had plotted together. Moreover, he had begun to fear he might be an accessory to a complicated suicide."
I say kinda because I think Dimitri and Clive are both sentimental people, but the rest of the quote really fits in my opinion
