They had to have been two or three.
They were just rolling the ball between each other. Back and fourth between the three. Without a care in the world.
Up until Nene accididentally pushed the ball too hard, instead slapping it with poth palms and send it flying at Darnellâs face.
Little to say, it made Darnell cry. Which scared Pico and made him cry. Which upset Nene and made her tear up.
Darnellâs mom came rushing out the kitchen then, looking between the bawling toddler boys and the teary eyed toddler girl.
âWhat happened, babies?â
Without stopping his crying, Darnell pointed at Nene, who in turn pointed at the ball.
Catching on, Darnellâs mother kneeled down next to her little boy, who was by now already being clung to by Pico before moving to wind her arms around him and the ginger practically attached to him right now. And then gave a kiss to his hairline.
âAwh sweetie... Iâm sure she didnâ mean it...â she cooed before looking at the little girl with soft eyes, âYou didnât mean it, right, honey...?â
Nene shook her head, sniffling.
âCouldja come over and tell Darnell youâre sorry?â
She nodded before walking towards them.
She didnât see a mark on him. In hindsight, it probably scared him more than hurt him.
Regardless, she wrapped her arms around him.

Before pressing her mouth against the general area where the ball hit with an audible âMahâ.
Darnell steadily calmed to mere sniffles, Pico following suit now that his friend was calming down.
Darnellâs mother smiled before releasing the children, standing up.
âThank you... you alright, Darny?â
Darnell nodded, wiping at his cheeks as the other two released him.
âGood. Itâs about snack time, babies, so go ahead and head to the table, okay?â
Another nod as he and Pico stood up, leading him and Nene to the table.
Not long after, Darnellâs mother came to deliver a plate each of grahm crackers and a cup each of apple juice.
Predictably, Pico took to wolfing down his snacks, and Darnell and Nene exchanged a look before placing one of each of their own grahm crackers on his plate. He got sad when he ran out of snacks too soon. And then they took to eating the rest of their own.

"I.... I wouldn't want to keep them if they don't want to stay. If it isn't a situation where they want to leave, though... I'd do so much. I try to be adaptable in any relationship, but I suppose I'm particularly desperate when I'm in a newer romantic relationship."
âShe did.â Itachi answered as he picked a few more apples. âShe would bake the apples, or use them to make a jam out of them.â He explained. âAs for myself, I like to either eat them in slices, or dip them in caramel with walnuts.â He added.Â
