Root Fire (2001) - Buy
I remember when I first heard this song.Ā It was through the souped-up car stereo of my friend Manny.Ā He had just returned from Kingston, Ontario from visiting an older-in-age friend of ours whom was already enrolled and partying it up in University--Queen's University to be specific.Ā At the time, I was a stinky, smelly, pimply-brace-faced teenager, and hearing something like this was like... like... SEE, some of you kids today don't remember the late 90s and early 2000s.Ā The internet was absolutely NOT like it is today.Ā The only way to give you an understanding of what the internet was like, is to just basically say:Ā Picture there be no internet; simply put.Ā So, getting your hands on new music, like you can so easily today, wasn't the same.Ā To be a teenager, even in the big city; to hear new music like this--it was a culture shock.Ā Like, it's one of those things that, Root Fire was different, and so cool, and because there was basically next to no outlet to share music back then, just knowing of Bedouin Soundclash in Ontario made you instantly sound really fucking cool; it upped your street cred massively *like that*.Ā If you shared it with someone that had NEVER heard of them--ho hooo you'd be a music guru in their eyes after a few tracks.Ā 10 years later... it's just another song out of a trillion in the world.Ā Ugh.Ā The early 2000s.Ā Man... in a lot of ways, I miss those days.
