My dad never waited in line for me.
Hello everyone! Its been a while since I dropped by here. It seems like we´ve been super busy with work, school and Halloween celebrations which unfortunately took some of our time in our apartment hunt. Needless to say we are still very anxious to find a new place and settling down somewhere despite what our lack of posting might reflect.Â
I love Stockholms architecture. The colors, shapes and lights that this city has all over. All the varied but still unified look certain areas have, Something you can only see in cities that werent affected during the war. There are many areas in town I look and wish I could live in and every time I think that thought I get reminded of the line system here in Sweden. I end up imagining small little tokens lying on each doorstep. Symbolizing that someone else is waiting in line for that apartment. A small reminder that I will probably never live there. And these little tokens spread across even in student apartments! Ewa and I applied for Stockholms Stad Bostadsförmedling and other sites. Some student apartments available are taken by people that have been waiting in line since 1993! How are students like Ewa and I (where we started to be in line in May 2011) to have any chance whatsoever to get a place in this city when the system for waiting in line is so absurd? Whenever I point this out to someone, they tell me most probably it was their parents that waited in line, or the family waited in line for their kids and so on which gives an even bigger unfair margin to those like us.Â
It wasnt my intention of writing a rant post but as a foreigner living in Stockholm, I dont understand this "waiting in line" system, when it feels most people that are "waiting in line" arent really the ones doing so.
