Indeed, the self is forgotten for love of another.

In Medicine, intelligence is not about knowing everything. It is knowing which facts are important to know, good to know, and nice to know.

My father would then ask for bale from his bosses and my mother would ask me to accompany her as she borrowed money from relatives and friends, knowing that these people did not always have the kindest words to say to both of them.

I have to say I teared up a bit while reading this article.

I'm tempted to recall my own story (for another time, perhaps), but let me just comment on how much I relate to the fact that yes, walang silbi ang internet nung panahon ko. My parents had no idea what it was as did most of my high school teachers, my aunt (who studied Bio in UP Manila) just went on yakking on how "prestigious" it was without really knowing much about it herself, and naive me was just holding on to the possibility that the course would be taught in Diliman, and not in Ermita. And the interwebs were not helping. AT ALL.
At one point during my emo iMed early years, his med school stories were the only ones giving me something to hold out for.
Still one of my favorite stories from my favorite Neurosurgeon (and professor and Frisbee-mate!), Ronibats. While this was the article/essay enclosed in his letter that he gave to all 125 of Batch 2014 during his last day of teaching in school.
Awh, I miss him. :)
