It amazes me how Rombulus from cute and dorky, became one of the biggest jerks in the series. BTW i love this package of episodes
A Contract Between Two Queens
Something that has been bothering me for a while is Eclipsaâs insistence that a contract between two queens is stronger than Rombulusâs crystals.
The weird thing is that Moon and Eclipsa are not related. We learned in âTotal Eclipsa the Heartâ that Moon if from the line of Festivia and is essentially a peasant with a magic wand.Â
Eclipsa, on the other hand, is technically still queen. She did not die and she did not pass her title on to her daughter and so, sheâs kinda still royalty though Moon is legally queen.
So the only thing she and Moon have in common is the title of âQueenâ.
And itâs not quite about the magic of the wand either, because, by then, ownership had been passed on for about 300 years. The wand no longer belongs to Eclipsa even if she was still queen (and going by Ludo, Lobster Claws, Festivia and Marco, the wand really doesnât give a shit).
A connection of magic is also ruled out because Eclipsa revealed that she never learned to âdip downâ and so canât use magic without the wand. At the point of that contract, she was just an ordinary woman making a deal with the queen of Mewni.
The way I see it is that either the title of âQueenâ actually means something and isnât just an empty title for the one that sits on the throne (Rombulus is an idiot but he is powerful. Two average Joes just deciding on something isnât going to break one of his crystals) or Eclipsa might not have been totally honest about not being able to âdip downâ.
Iâm not suggesting that she IS able to go all Butterfly Choji Mode... but maybe she learned something else. Maybe she found a way to contest magical beings by using their powers for herself. âA contract between two queensâ could simply be Eclipsaâs way of convincing Moon to touch her so that she could syphon her power and use it to forge said contract.
I mean, it kind of looks like sheâs draining, or at least, repurposing Moonâs power right there. She, an ordinary mewman, touched and redirected a beam from a powered up Queen Butterfly that was intended to to kill a hybrid monster and yet suffered no ill-effects.Â
I have no doubt that she would have been willing to step between Meteora and Moon even if she couldnât do something like that, but it also seems likely that she could and did.
