Just finished a pair of earrings that has taken me in a slightly different direction creatively through the inclusion of Roman glass beads and Roman Greyware beads. Finally had a chance to list those found object earrings I made in the week with the Roman Greyware beads I upcycled from pottery shards and the clay pipe stem pieces. There’s something quite rustic about them and I was lucky to find two similar mermaid tear seaglass pieces to match. Experimenting with making beads from Roman Greyware pottery. I find lots of Roman Greyware shards in our garden while digging and around the field edges on my dog walks. It’s the most common type of Roman pottery made in many different places in Britain. I mainly find the sides of cooking pots and it was nice to find this flat piece I could work with possibly from a plate. It dates from around the 1st and 2nd centuries AD but in some places continued to be used until the 4th century.
