Montreal
This summer has been busy, like CRAZY-no sleep-high stress-busy every weekend-but also then I don't have time to clean the house so I'm more stressed- So many things going on- But then we also find out we have to move on top of all that- SUPER, kinda busy. So forgive me for being almost a week late with this one but also... I'm not all that sorry.Β
This past Sunday Evan and I trekked to Montreal with his friends Chris and Andrew to do some touristy things, because we never really have done more than shop there and Chris had never visited Montreal before. So we piled in the car bright and early, grabbed some 8am McDonald's breakfast (obviously, it's a road trip), and were on our merry way.Β [Side note: It never ceases to amaze me how girly Evan and his friends turn when there's a road trip. I mean, my friends do the same but they're... women. Anyways, a lot of sing-alongs and ridiculous dancing to ABBA, Spice Girls, Shania Twain, and Beyonce ensued. And yes, the boys knew every word. But don't tell them I told you all this.]
We parked down at Old Port and walked along the St. Lawrence river, checking out the big yachts all parked along the wharf. At that point it was about 10am, and already soo hot. We found an ice cream shop immediately and got a nice double scooper to help cool us down for our walk (cherry cheesecake, and chocolate amaretto, if you're curious). We then walked around Old Montreal, taking in all the touristy junk like the caricature artists, and places selling souvenirs; the signature places in the area like the big fountain, the cobblestone streets, and Notre Dame Basicila; and admired the wide variety of beautiful, old architecture used for the buildings we passed. It really is a very pretty area. [pics to follow].
We found a little pub and grabbed a patio table right in the heart of Old Montreal and had a couple drinks.. I got a half pitcher of sangria which was brought to me with a straw, which was the most beautiful thing I saw all day, and yes I drank it like that and ignored the glass he also brought me to use like a civilized human. It was delicious. We people watched and chitchatted a bit, then set off to fill our bellies with a place I had heard raved about on more than one occasion... Romado's!Β
I'll admit the walk was a little much from where we were, down near Old Port, with the place located up in the Mont Royal area... but I mean the 45 min walk did us good. We saw some wicked street art on the way, and frankly got an appreciation for living in Ottawa because the apartments there looked pretty dumpy lol. I also wasn't hating the tan I was getting... Though it was hotter than hell.
Alas, we arrived at our destination. A wall of cakes, pasteries and other bakery treats lined the right side of the room, with a line of people in front of us waiting to get up to the grill where chickens were roasting on rotisseries in groups of 4 above drawers upon drawers of cooked chickens. And man.. they looked good. Evan and I each got our own chicken sandwich, and we split a poutine which also had cut up chicken on it. HOLY SMOKES, was it ever good. Definitely one of the best poutines I've ever had. I grabbed a custard-filled "lobster tail" pastery and an eclair to take home-- which we ate later that night and was pretty tasty too--as well. For me, 100% worth the walk. Unfortunately, by the time we walked back to our car we were all completely pooched and didn't feel like doing the other things we had thought we might do, like check out the Jazz Fest at Place d'arts or climb Mont Royal to check out the view. Oh well, guess that just means we'll have to go back one day to see them... and maybe we could sneak in grabbing another one of those poutines while we're there, too!
Holy fuck shit... Romados had a fire!?
No one was hurt, but goddamn, where will I get my chicken fix from now?
