Skaters, officials, fans, announcers, everyone
I have to say this, discuss if you wish.
There's a fine line between abuse of an official and abuse of official power. I'm very uncomfortable with drastic measures taken at practices, and many times at games, to prevent or punish a skater for "mouthing off", "talking back", or "track reffing". These people are not children. They're full grown adults who are playing a full contact sport with high adrenaline. Emotions run high, things go wrong, but in the end derby happens. There are rules in place for this behavior, use them when appropriate and for the rest, remember its not personal. When someone makes it personal, then yes, do what you feel is necessary.
I also believe we, as officials, need to remember that our work directly impacts their game. If we are not doing our jobs to the best of our ability, then I fully expect them to be upset with us as well. I've seen it in the past and I know I'll see it again. We're not perfect, they're not perfect, and we just need to remember that as we move along.
Moral of the story: Don't be a dick.
My thighs hurt so much but I am gonna do squats and lunges until thunder shoots from them and thwarts my enemies.
