Grief had struck Rogue hard in the chest. It was a constant ache that would never go away no matter what she did. She found herself missing those nights awake late with Gambit where they'd play cards under the moonlight and she'd swear he must've been cheating, or when he'd tease her by asking for a kiss and she'd shove him away, or when he held his hand over her gloved one. Rogue had felt something similar when she'd visit Cody in the hospital every year but not to the same extent.
But now there was no time for grief. The world had moved on from Genosha as if it were something so minor. The X-Men had hoped to move past Genosha too. But her mind was always there, always on that night, always replaying what happened like a broken record.
The X-Men had finally returned back to their time. All united back in their mansion, with the exception of Erik. It was bustling with life and full of young mutants eager for their guidance, but it all felt empty to her. A glass mural was built in one of the halls and had In memory of Magneto written on a plaque. Inside was his destroyed mask, a painting of him made by Charles, and other small memorabilia for him. Rogue had mixed feelings about him, but hated that damn memorial. It wasn't fair. Erik was their enemy since the beginning and he had harmed so many of them, but he turns good for a couple of months and suddenly gets all this love and praise? Where was Gambit's? He had been there for years, he had changed from his past in the Thieves Guild, he had proved himself as an X-Man so many times. So why did he get one before him?
