his course in life has changed so dramatically over the past few years -- even the past few seasons. he’s grateful for the awakenings he’s had. zuko knows that this is the correct position he’s supposed to hold, because this destiny is his OWN. it’s no longer dictated by a father with no love. the banished prince has forged his own path, now fire lord. the responsibility to capture the avatar was heavy when the task was bestowed upon him. by apprehending aang, it would grant him his HONOR back and give him a family again, albeit shattered and cruel. it felt as if his entire future -- nay, his life -- rested on the discovery of the avatar. arguably, the crown that adorns his head feels just as heavy as his previous task. earlier, it was just his future on the line. now, it’s an entire DOMINION. a whole nation is under his command. and his grip on it is new. it feels weak. there are people who doubt him at every turn, still faithful to the powerful OZAI. they will never bow to an insolent prince, dishonorable to his nation. but zuko sees what can happen when friends come together. entire wars can be stopped. countless lives can be saved. if anyone can lead the fire nation, it is zuko. but he does not realize this yet. he bares this weight alone. seeking help has never been a strength of his, despite now having a support system to turn to. it had always been seen as vulnerable and weak to ask for a friend’s aid. and though he’s curtailed much of what his father had engrained in his mind, teachings still linger.
seeing a friend is like a breath of fresh air. he feels the heat in his body rise, warming his lungs and heart. a rare smile even comes upon the fire lord’s face. ❛ it’s good to see you, toph. ❜ being kind no longer feels like a weakness. but a hug is forgone. he surmises that neither of them quite like that type of greeting. time has changed him entirely ; even the clothes he wears shows it. ❛ my uncle says that you are thinking of building an earth - bending school. ❜ admittedly, zuko talks far less with his uncle than he previously had. he feels guilt to ever trouble him. to him, iroh has sacrificed much to get him where he is today. without his uncle, zuko surmises he may never have found faith in himself. it was iroh’s gentleness and understanding that led him there. and now the old man is at peace. he runs the jasmine dragon, living out the harmonious lifestyle of which he has always dreamed. to trouble his mentor is something zuko avoids. but they write often, and iroh had conversed this in his previous note. it intrigues him. ❛ i want to talk with you about it. ❜ if anyone could instruct the next generation of earth benders, zuko knows: it’s toph beifong.

Mauve hues flutter in pointed stoicism, her dark brows arching slightly in annoyance of her own accord. Eclipsa brings the tips of her gloved fingers to her nose, pinching the bride. There, the queen takes one deep, deep breath-- as if to inhale the frustration that comes from the scene that she sees before her.
The dining hall was an appalling mess- food, trash and clothes tossed all around. The stone floor was barely visible as a result, leaving barely any space uncovered by the wreck. It looked as several house parties had been thrown, in succession, in this room. And the queen was clearly fuming. She was never the most orderly but, goodness-- A woman’s home was a sacred thing! And was that.... pudding.... coating and dripping from her ceiling? Lovely. Absolutely lovely.
Her answer comes clipped and with a slightly shrug. Her wand is in her hand, snapping open as she waved it. Even with magic, this would take a bit of time. ❛ Glossaryck-- possibly Rhombulus as his accomplice. Obviously. You would think for a being of untold knowledge and wisdom, he would at LEAST know when to pick up after himself-- he is more than able, you know. But.... here we are. Could you fetch a mop bucket, my dear? And... the largest waste bag liners you can find, please. There’s a good girl..❜

mike stares at the blonde for an excessively long amount of time, not exactly sure of what the context of ‘taking him out’ she means. as friends? as more-than-friends? is she going to finally put him out of his misery on this godforsaken planet? mike supposes the only way to know is to ask, but he has no idea how to pose a question like that without coming off too awkward. besides, if she really means just as friends, that would be so humiliating for him to have even considered otherwise. still, he’s got to know.

head bows and shame radiates off of her. she should never have let him take her bending , and yet she would sacrifice herself a hundred times over in order to protect the last of the airbenders. she just hoped her mother could see that. ʺ his name is amon. ʺ she answers quietly. all she had ever wanted was to make her mother proud , to fill the giant footsteps that were left in the very first metalbender’s wake. how could she protect the city without her bending ? how could she protect anyone ?

❛ . . . NO ! ❜ and with that the rage grabs ahold of him. fire does not come anywhere near toph, but he’s sure she can feel the heat. a flag with the fire nation insignia rests on the wall ; it has caught aflame, and he does nothing to fix it. with every ragged breathe he feels warmth ( remember zuko -- fire comes from the belly ) and for a moment he wonders what he could do with that much power.
❛ i thought i would be able to change the fire nation. instead, they still see me as a coward. ❜ for the fire nation is great, but not superior ; he wants to lead with the ways of love, friendship, and support -- all of which he was depleted in childhood. but it seems time has done little to change the minds of those who still support ozai and his ways. ❛ the crown and title mean nothing. i should feel honorable, but i don’t. ❜ i still feel banished from this place that was supposed to be my home.
