The Dictaphone sound like The Horrors sent on a sludgy time-travel mission. They released their latest, past.future.void, this past summer. Since then, it’s been on constant play. The band curates a whole new wavy sort of sound; there are songs that are rock 'n' roll through and through, while others are speckled with heavy dosages of reverb and heavy, gloomy ambience. Others are instrumental oddities – mad scientist music sent through an acid-drenched amp. While the thirteen songs on past.future.void are a litany of different, seriously strange sounds, they've managed to cull my interest time and time again.

Clearly, I'm not the only one who digs the weird stylings of The Dictaphone. Coming up in October is a repress of Muzak Tape on a newly formed label, Schmalzgrub Audiokassetten. They’ve also got a split 12" with Crash Normal coming out on Rococo Records. Past.future.void was released via Tolmie Terrapin Press. Buy the tape or get it off Bandcamp now.
