I really shouldn't get this emotional over the whole Rockmelt thing, still. It's been a year. But it pisses me off. Because this amazing browser and tool died to the arms race between Yahoo! and Google. Yahoo! has said they intend to incorporate the features into later projects, but that isn't the issue. The issue is that this product, created by a small group of individuals, with the user put before anything else, has died to Yahoo!'s growing piece in the internet oligopoly. It's just fucking stupid.
We're talking about web browsers in class and I feel like a nerd for being the only who knows about Rockmelt |D
Just found out rockmelt is shutting down at the end of August in a couple days and was bought by Yahoo.
My heart is so sad, rockmelt is my favorite. I feel bad that I haven't used it the last couple months.

Yahoo acquires social web browser Rockmelt
The Marissa Mayer shopping spree continues, as Yahoo has just acquired Rockmelt, the social networking centric web browser built on Mozilla’s open-source platform. The acquisition of Rockmelt makes this the twenty-first purchase made by Yahoo since Mayer took the helm as CEO last year. Yahoo’s biggest purchase by far has been microblogging site Tumblr.
Reports indicate Yahoo will pay between $60 and $70 million for Rockmelt. Yahoo is supposedly making the purchase to acquire Rockmelt’s talent in the mobile development space. This is in line with reports that Mayer has put all her Yahoo eggs into the mobile basket as she finds ways to make the once Internet giant relevant in a market dominated by her former employer Google and its rival Apple.
Whether Yahoo will launch Rockmelt as a competitor to Google Chrome, Apple Safari, and Internet Explorer from Microsoft is yet to be seen, but wouldn’t be necessarily a bad idea for a company looking to reinvent itself.
