Robstar Week Day 3, July 19th: Denial

This scene in Tokyo, I feel, captures Robin’s strongest moment of denial. Denial of his feelings, denial of their love, and the denial of what was shared between them. Robin and Starfire both knew of their love for each other. Starfire wanted it and was ready, Robin denied. I felt this moment is really beautifully represented through the bridge of “Steady” by Bella Kay. So here is an edit of what I felt went through their heads in this moment!

For today’s prompt, I wanted to draft a short little fanfic that brings back the handsome alien man Starfire was crushing over on Tamaran 🫢🫢🫢 I will admit, I believe Robin is slightly out of character here, but it works for the story. Not that much out of character though, who knows, maybe she caught him on a bad day LOL. Anyways, enjoy! Happy Day 2! ⭐️❤️

The Guarding of the Girlfriend

A typical day for the Teen Titans is much different from the average person’s usual. Today, Robin and Starfire have returned from a trip to Tamaran. This was their 3rd trip together since Robin started insisting to come along. More specifically, he joins her for endeavors where she needs to fulfill the dreaded “princess duties” to make it less taxing for her. And she does very much appreciate it.

The trips always have some sort of awkwardness to them since he is not as familiar with Tamaran as Starfire is. However, what really made this trip awkward was that the guard who attended to Starfire’s every need was the man that introduced her almost husband. Yeah, that one. The man with the long red hair, chiseled body, and long stature. The one that she took an interest in!!! To say the least, Robin was not happy. Although Starfire was polite and never entertained it, Robin definitely saw him showering her with compliments and borderline flirting her with. By some miracle, Robin kept it together. Especially since he knew that if he caused a scene, back to the dungeons he may go, and he didn’t want a bad rep on her home planet.

He bottled up the anger and jealously inside until they touched back down on Earth. That was when he really became distant, which did not go unnoticed by Starfire. Starfire is not one to let something go, especially when it came to Robin, so after an hour or two of him brooding and avoiding her, she approached him.

“Robin, you have been acting very strange since we have returned from Tamaran. Is there a matter that is bothering you?”

Robin curtly replied, “No, I’m fine, just tired”.

Starfire may have trouble understanding earth language and culture at times, however, his response being a lie was clear as day to her in this moment. And, similar to their time in Tokyo, she might know why he was upset.

She countered, “Are you angry because of how the guard who was assisting me was treating me?”.

Well when she words it like that…

“I uh- I mean, couldn’t you see that he was- you know what, never mind”, Robin spit out.

“Robin, I completely understand if his choice of words was an annoyance you. I want to be honest, I was, in fact, aware that he was doing the flirting with me. I did my best to appease him, yet not give him any indication that I was interested. I have a boyfriend and he is you”.

Robin, speaking before thinking, responded, “You were so interested in him before. I remember you were. So none of his advances affect you now? You were real excited when you thought he was your new husband”.

Starfire was shocked by Robin’s sudden burst of intense jealously. She didn’t think he had been so affected by that day, although, she understood why it could have been traumatic. He almost lost the love of his life forever…

However, she made sure to nip this thought of his in the bud now and forever. She began to explain,

“Robin, I do not and will not ever want a Tamaranean man. I want you and only you. Yes, at that time, I was enticed by him. However, also during that time we were not romantically involved. Although, I did want to be. Even though I had interest in him then, my love for you had not completely faded. I was simply trying to make the best out of a bad situation”.

As Robin began to calm his anger and allow his face to soften with compassion, she continued.

“The men of Tamaran are very assertive, very…harsh with women. Some may feel as though they are entitled to pair with them. Tamaran prioritizes relationships, especially in the terms of successfully maintaining the population. Marriage is also important to keep powerful lineage. Love on Tamaran is so…forced. There is a sort of…expectation to entertain the men who look at you. That is why I was never interested in being with someone on Tamaran. That is why I fell in love with you. You are so…caring, patient, and most importantly, gentle with me. It is so freeing to not feel the pressures of love or marriage. Here, I am free of those confines. I am free to just…be. I also am free to be with someone who I truly love and someone I know truly loves me”.

After this explanation any remaining jealously that had been in Robin’s body completely evaporated. He then looked at her with a tender glance, one that Starfire also shared with him, and they joined into a tight embrace.

As soon as they broke apart, apologies came spilling out of Robin.

“I’m so sorry I acted like that Star. That was…beautiful. I never knew much about what happens on Tamaran besides the betrothals. But, I’m happy you’re free here too. I just got really upset at that guy crushing over you right in front of me, but from now on, I’ll try and stop myself knowing that what we have is powerful enough to combat any intrusions”.

Starfire beamed and replied, “Good, because that is very true”.
